a friend of mine has been problems with his amateur radio since the installation of skyQ, i believe it uses power line technology to get the signals to a second box in the bedroom.
is there another way to connect the box in the bedroom, and can the PLT side of this equipment be turned off?
The interference on the HF spectrum is killing radio, and using house wiring, a non shielded cable to send data around the house is asking for trouble.
thanks for any help!

I thought the mini Q boxes worked off Wifi?
I think they can also be hardwired with CAT5.
I think your friend needs to look at one of those options and do away from the powerline adaptors.
I would have thought with him being a 'HAM' he would have known that powerline cause interference with kit like his...

My Satellite Setup
OpenBox X5 on a 1 meter motorized dish.
And now a 10 foot "C" band dish.

Some of the power line data boxes operate in the 50 MHz band, if he does not use anything over the 30 MHz frequency range he can use a 3 to 30 MHz band pass filter, I would recommend a good one.

If he uses 2 meters and 440 then a band pass filter for that range is best, if he is trying for 6 meters then he is out of luck.

All my ham radios that use an AC power supply have some serious AC filters on them, but if it's direct radation from the power lies them selves it's going to be a hard problem to eliminate.

i had another chat with him tonight, and he told me that if he unplugs his antenna the noise disappears, which makes me think that it might be air born interference and not through the mains, his mains ring is acting like a antenna.
he could do with switching to wifi or cat5 to connect to the second box and switching off the plt, if it can be switched off.
as for amateur radio he is using all the bands from 1.8mhz to 440mhz

Q is WiFi, but their proprietary circuit running at around 5GHz.

He could try disconnecting the dish and try a recording from the planner, see if the interference is from the boxes, or from the main Q box wideband tuner circuitry.
