TV Headend is fairly easy to install and configure these days. Everything is carried out by the configuration wizard. Once you expose the transport stream to the TVH server you’re good to go.

Probably the best route to go is to create an m3u playlist from the source, enter the url into the IPTV section and allow TVH to scan the m3u, find the services and map those services to channel names and numbers.

I have all my DVBS, DVBT and IPTV sources all configured in a TVH server and use the KODI TVH client to view them. The channel switch between all three sources is seemless.

Hi Adam
Do you have much expertise on TVHeadEnd?
Or are you Adam Sutton from the channel :)

Hi,

I'm not Adam Sutton :D But I do use TVHeadend for my main set-up on an HTPC running Ubuntu. I've limited experience of using it with Sat>IP (I set up mini satip on a Raspberry Pi running a DVB-T2 tuner at one stage though, and that displayed automatically within my TVHeadend install).

If you can get TVH onto the Unraid install, it should hopefully 'see' your SATIP tuner in the Configuration > DVB Inputs menu when you go to http://unraid_ip_address:9981

If you don't get the set-up wizard, you just go to Configuration > DVB Inputs > Networks, click Add, select Type DVB-S. Then give it a name, select pre-defined muxes as 28.2°E Astra, make sure if there's an enabled option that it's ticked (this is only the case on some builds of TVHeadend). Then click Create.

Then if you go back to the TV Adapters tab, find your Telestar device which should hopefully show up in the list, and change its settings so it's enabled and under the Networks dropdown it has the 28.2°E network you just created assigned to it.

Once that's done you should start getting channels tuned in the Services tab.

Then under Configuration > Channel / EPG > Bouquets you should have a big list of bouquets. You'll want the Freesat one which applies to your region, so for example the one I would use would be "England HD: West/West". You need to tick the enable tickbox next to it and click save. Then you'll get the channels in the Freesat order in the Channels tab.

Last step in TVHeadend which is less important if you're using an alternative EPG source but could be useful all the same, is to go to the EPG Grabber Modules tab, and make sure the only ones enabled are -

Over the air: EIT: EPG Grabber
Over the air: UK: Freesat
Over the air: UK: Freesat (EIT)

Now you should be able to see the Freesat channels with a suitable TVHeadend PVR add-on for Plex.

HI Adam
I got a little further i had to change my Unraid template to host it then saw the device.
I can scan but i have a M3U file which i got with the scrambled channels removed and i wanted to load that.
It is in a folder in the root of TVHead but whatever url i try to put in the box it never sees it?

The file path format is something like "file:///full/path/to/file.m3u"

I'm not sure I'd recommend this way if you can see your tuner in TVHeadend now though, as an m3u won't take into account any channels moving around as they do sometimes, whereas using TVH's native tuner support and one of the inbuilt Freesat bouquets should help keep things up to date if any parameters do change. The Freesat bouquets only have the free to air stuff anyway. There are some extra FTA channels which you can then add manually too.

Hi Adam
I am trying the software scan but it stops at 75% then never moves?

This is the log from TVHead

That's strange, I would just click Save & Next and then Finish the wizard to see what you have and what you're missing at this stage. The 118 found muxes again suggests an Astra 1 scan somehow (my TVHeadend has 118 muxes listed for Astra 1 and 74 for Astra 2).

75% is probably the point where it's managed to scan all the ones on Astra 2 and then is just trying ones that only exist on Astra 1 which you won't get a signal on. (The two satellite groups use a very similar frequency plan, so scanning the list of one on the other will usually pull in at least some of the channels where the parameters match).

I think that's just that the player in the browser doesn't work with the video. If you click the programme on-air currently on an FTA channel like Channel 4 for example, then click "play" in the pop-up window it should play with video externally in VLC.

What have you got in Configuration > DVB Inputs > Muxes and Configuration > Channel / EPG > Bouquets ?

Hmm the file downloading sounds right but it not playing is curious.

The stuff in bouquets and muxes looks good. I think the pre-defined transponder list for Astra 2 contains some old stuff which no longer exists which explains the stuff you’ve got that’s listed as FAILED (and why the scan only got to 75%), I’d forgotten it did this. It shouldn’t really matter anyway though. :)

I’m guessing you want the Freesat channels?

looking to cut the cord and run a Digibit R1 into a window 10 pc running plex for epg and dvr

This is exactly the type of setup I'm aspiring to achieve.
The location of my Plex Media server has 2 satellite cables fed through walls and under floor boards but no coax so HD Homerun is not an option.

Did you manage to get this up and running.
Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks
Mike

Yes, i did after weeks of trying with lots of help from here and other forms.
I use Unraid so unless you're in same position my help will be of no use.
If you are using Unraid let me know
