You definitely can receive the Caribbean Spot & The Panamerican beams, most probably the Brazilian as well ... and that's it. If your idea was to receive the british SatBack ... sorry no go.

There are different beams and you should be able to get the Pan America beam without problems. Most channels are encrypted though using Verimatrix and StreamGuard (simulcrypt).

The Nordsea beam containing BBC and others (BISS encrypted) is well out of reach at your place as is the Europe and Middle East beam (not much of interest except ESPN (BISS encrypted) on this beam.

Thanks for your quick replies and feedback. One of the reasons I ask is at the moment I get hispasat 30w and intelsat 34w, so I know telstar 12 would be a bit down from intelsat 34. You can even get hispasat 30w and intelsat 34w with a 4ft dish here.

You can always try!
In some cases there are sidelobes and if you are lucky you might get one.
The chance of getting the North Sea (I'm in Sweden so autocorrect preferred "Nordsea" in my previous answer) beam is none I would say.

Nalleman, i see that you are somewhere in Motala, what about your BBC reception via Telstar? According to you profile page, you have 1,8 Channel Master, how does the spectrum and that huge 100mhz transpoder looks like for you on a 1,8cm? do you have crazyscan and can you show us that part of the spectrum? ( I'm just a little bit curious and would also like to know if you get Astra 28,2e uk beam?)
Forum member dmaavrigdom, he gets it in Vansbro with 80 cm dish.

The 1,8 m dish is fixed at 28 E. I'm getting all channels there without problem with the exception of 11053 H which is hard to get sometimes in bad weather.
This means I haven't tried the 1,8 at Telstar.

Several dishes but been working on getting BBC sat back up & running again

Yes I am getting signals from the satellite (Telstar). Mind you it’s taken nearly two weeks of messing around & finally just before the Man U v Chelsea match.
I am using a newly bought 120cm dish which is damaged hence no BBC 3 or BBC 4.
My location is Serta Portugal.
Off to pour a glass of wine, my box is a Gt media V8 which I also used on Intelsat 901.
DPD have got a lot to answer for but that’s another story.
I can only use a cheap satellite finder as I am used to it.

Try BBC3 & 4 after 7pm ;)

(They are part time channels sharing with the kids channels)

The signals are starting to break up a bit but I am not going to touch the dish just yet.
During the past two weeks I have picked up Hispasat (yet again) on a decent sized dish compared to my mini Hispasat dish. The extra FTA channels are brilliant with several free ‘film channels’. Tuning to Hispasat takes about a minute with my painted markers on the ground.
Should these cloudy conditions persist I will tune into the other dish as I enjoy the Spanish language & Spanish channels. We had a packet of rain this morning (thankfully) but we are headed into six months plus of clear skies now ( in central Portugal).
At least I can continue with a Vodafone.pt data sim for internet use (about €1 day) & forget about cheap satellite internet as my dish picks up BBC satback again.
Thanks to all the advice regarding ‘locations’ from other posters.
What seemed to be a ‘closed chapter’ is going onto ‘better times’.
The signal is getting better (very clear) so there is a bit of ‘iffy’ with Telstar compared to the ‘cast iron‘ Intelsat 901.

The Telstar 12 signal went off about 9am & I have been using two satellite finders today ( both finders have their merits).
Rather fancy that the bods at the ‘other end’ may be tweeting things as yesterday was okay. In fact the signal was at 95:85 (strength/quality). Right down today though.
Anyway, I have ordered about €15 of tools from AliExpress which will keep me amused in the weeks to come re two dents. As the dish is not warped it will be worth spending a bit of time on.
In Portugal there are only a couple of satellite dish suppliers worth using, the others want to charge ‘silly money’.
Fingers crossed that at going home time (bods at the other end), the signal will increase.
