I have the Technomate TM 5402 HD M3, not a bad workhorse. Though some HD pictures are poor. I now use the Octagon SX88+ which is better supported. Only downside I know is that it doesn't have a receiver loop through. Other than that is fab for the price.
Mooncamm, William and all who can help. Between the octagon SX88 & sf8008 and the tm 5402 m3, which has a better sat tuner able to hold onto the weak signals better while the other breaks or not show picture. Is there any receiver with better sat tuner than the technomate and octagon? This information is so important to me guys.

The SX88+ series have excellent tuners as does the Edision Primo IP S2,
All the Masters Golf feeds worked well with these satellite receivers on the 10°E feeds with my 100cm dish.

The TM 5402 M3 is badly dated and long out of support. Its very easy to set up but has annoying bugs in the firmware - many satellites end up with transponder lists full of frequencies that are either long dead or on beams that cant be received. Its a shame the firmware was never improved past about 2014 as its a decent enough box, and with some work could have been superb.

Plus there is no multi stream support on it, so if thats important dont consider it.

I have the tm 5402 m3 and i want a receiver with a better sensitive sat tuner. Just a receiver that can hold the signal where others will break. The receivers often mentioned in this regards are the zero 4k, octatgon sf008, the gigablue 4k and now the octagon SX88 and edision primo ip. So William and you guys, my question is has any of you ever measured the tuner sensitivity of the SX88 or Edision Primo or the other receivers side by side against the technomate or each receiver against any other? Hope my English is good enough to ground an understanding. In short which receiver has the best sat tuner sensitivity.

The 5402 has a pretty sensitive tuner. And a tuner isnt really going to make up for insufficient signal - you are far better off investing in a bigger dish if your desired signals are marginal.

The effectiveness of a bigger dish is not lost on me. For your info i have a 5 meter comtec dish and a 5.2 meter locally made fiber dish both giving about same signal levels. Hunting hotbird, astra 19.2 and hispasat from central Ghana in west Africa even with a 5 meter dish is daunting. In trying to pull in the fringe signals everything counts. From dish size, lnb to sensitive tuner ect. Its like building a football team, from number one to eleven you try to avoid a weaker link. In my opinion I am using the best fringe LNB ever, the mti highline twin (mti ap82-xt2n) and one of the best receivers for the fringes but we have come far since the days the technomate reigned. This current endeavour of mine is to check if there is a receiver with a better tuner for the fringes on the market than my tm 5402 m3. In this, one has to count on other people's experiences.

Analoguesat, we know the technomate has a sensitive tuner but the question is, have you ever tested the tm 5402 m3 against any of the other mentioned receivers or has anyone else done so side by side?

forget the old tech - get a modern stb with multistream and 4k - the sx88 is a good box - however, your needs are different to mine, i've been after a secondary box for blind scanning only, so i dont mind old tech for that, i.e tm-5302 \ Icecrypt s6600 - however, my primary STB is an Octagon 8008 - which is used for watching tv and moving dish. it has a great tuner - locks a lot and locks low SR tp's

isnt it built in? LNB-f
That's what I thought and was why I was asking. I don't know the FD ratio of his dishes but if he's using the LNB unmodified, he'll likely achieve much greater gains with a properly matched feed than with a different receiver.

No - most new receivers get my blood boiling due to the horrendous interfaces on them & I get an irrational urge to pummel them flat with a 3lb lump hammer :D

That mti is an lnbf offset but my dish is a prime focus so i have cut it and attached a fuji lnbf head to it. The fuji heads are different and some work better than others on the mti. It is equally effective when one chop part of the mti head off. I am now trying to test mti against the invacom head as shwon in the attachment. I have four ap82-xt2n and four invacom heads so I am going to test them to the mti in several ways to be which is best.

Think of it as the angle the LNB receives signal from. F/D = focal length divided by diameter. Small offset dishes like the two mentioned are around 0.6, and most universal LNBF are suited to that F/D ratio - the LNB will 'see' the whole dish face and not much more.
Prime focus dishes tend to have a lower ratio and require the feed to receive signals from a wider angle. A standard universal LNBF will not receive signal from the whole dish face.

Perhaps try some new LNBs, especially if those MTIs have been baking in the sun for many years.

Thats the oldest so i decided to risk it because of its age. If the method works on the old, it will surely work on the new as well.

I have this week tested three receivers against tm 5402 hd m3. The receivers are Starsat 200hd extreme, octagon sf8008 and the Ax60 4k. The test was done on 26 east with transponder 11270 v 27500. Each of the three receivers held the signal while the technomate failed. However, among the three named receivers when compared side by side there was no significant difference in term of tuner sensitivity. It has been posted elsewhere in this forum by Gladstones that the Xcruiser 785 has a better tuner over the Octagon sf8008. I have also read from a Pakistani forum where the sensitivity of the Xcruiser has been hailed but someone posted that the Formuler S turbo has a better tuner over the Xcruiser on his test. For those of us who are concerned with tuner sensitivity, it is important we compared the sensitivity of the Formuler and the Xcruiser to ascertain which of the two has a better tuner.

xcruiser and formuler looks the same if someone got formuler he can open the box and posts the pic of tuner and board and i will do the same maybe its same inside and we will take it from there
