One thing's for sure, they don't combat storm disruption of the Uplink!

In broadcasting and the CATV field, we tried everything to eliminate weather related signal fades, the only tried and true method found was to use bigger dishes, take a look at some of the dishes outside a CATV head end, they are not the 1 meter size used by most home installs, in one location (Alaska) we had to use a 15 meter dish just to get a stable year round Ku band down link. "C" band is the most stable for use with the network and premium channel down links, it is the better band to use for weather related fades.

I think mine helps keep the LNB face dry. Half a 5 litre water bottle and a bit of scrap metal.

But what about the several thousand tons of water vapor in those nasty dark clouds up there???

Dry or not the LNB cant see the very very weak signals (in the pico watt range) from the satellites when that's in the way.

Yes I know but it saves me a few trips up and down the stairs to wipe the drops off that do stop the signal.
