Hi,

Just been trying to watch Tring Sport 1 which I believe is FTA when not showing football. However my Tring keeps going on and off. It says I have a good signal quality and reception on the display on the box, so just a little confused. Is this what you can expect from Tring? I have heard people moaning about how it comes and goes?

If there are difficulties with the silly, wobbling, or other satellite problems, they should disappear when the new satellite WC3 comes into service in a week or two.

Oh is this a known problem then and why they are bringing a new Sat into use then? Will this mean new TP data for the channels as well?

The satellite that was at 16e went up the creek and Eutelsat moved 3 very old satellites round to cover 16e. They really are old bangers so there will be a huge improvement when W3C fires up.

The frequencies will most likely stay the same as they are coordinated so not to interfere with 13e or 19e. But some other transmission parameters may change, so if any channels disappear, or you loose sound or vision then re-scanning will bring them back again.

16E is a bit of a jinxed slot :D

The original bird at 16E (W2) failed unexpectedly a couple of years ago. Eutelsat rushed three othersats areound the arc to take over Eurobird 16A which has very strong signals, W2M which is almost new but had a battery failure during in-orbit testing and the elderly Sesat1 which to put it bluntly has a terrible signal in the UK.

EB16A/W2M/Sesat1 were due to be replaced by W3B last year but that bird was written off by a major propellant leak immediately after launch and was abandoned the day after the launch.

Eutelsat have rushed W3C into orbit and she should be going into service early next month

I last looked on the Als&t forum a couple of weeks ago and there were still plenty of complaints at that point.

It is also possible that there is some interference from mains power leads.

It is good practice to keep the LNB cable and all the connections on the back of the box well away from any power cable including the one going into the box. Using something like foam pipe insulation or a kitchen roll tube will keep the cables apart if they have to cross each other. Cross at right angles when possible. Always remove the plug from the mains for a minute or so when this has been sorted, to properly restart the operating system in the box.

Typical symptoms of this kind of spurious noise (interference) includes failing to blind scan some or all low symbol rate channels, usb pvr not recording properly, usb dropping out on playback, slow channel changes, odd jumping when moving around menus, slow blind scans due to being misled by spurious noise, pixelating especially when menus come up or when changing channel parameters, random dropping out of encrypted channels, slow to lock up and start decoding encrypted channels and the operating system freezing requiring unplugging to reset.
