TV Cabo detects illegal connections
Since the start of the year, the Portuguese cable operator TV Cabo has detected 7,000 illegal connections to its cable TV network.
It succeeded in signing up 1,000, and informed the regulator Anacom of 200 cases of illegal reception among the remaining 6,000. ATVCabo source told the daily Expresso that the company is investing €2 million a year on monitoring illegal cable connections.
According to the new electronic communications legislation which came into force in May, individuals can be fined between €500 and €3,740, while businesses (including cafes and restaurants) risk fines of between €5,000 and €45,000.
