If its not compatible,i think there is a device that converts pal to ntsc and vice versa.;)

hello,
we did tests with sling via computer.
i receives the bbc and connected it to the tv..
if your sling box does not work with your uk tv,amazon makes a ntsc to pal to hdmi converter
it costs about $80

Now I'm Curious ..
I always thought slingbox devices used RGB or composite video input ...and therefore were not TV standard dependent
RGB is the same the whole world over as its not using any form of modulation ..and therefore would be compatible ..
Who these days uses an input connected through the aerial socket ?

btw ..
Hi Turok ..
Long time since I've seen you back in the dn days..

I do!!!! :D

Almost everything is cross wired in weird and wonderful ways using rf connections, splitters, amplifiers, rf modulators etc etc.

I hate scarts - I always end up with multiple switching clashes with it, and cant be bothered with the hassle.

Anyway on our old telly theres bugger all difference between scart & rf quality :D

:-rofl2

..I should have known ...sorry m8 ..
Nothing wrong with using RF distribution ..
..certainly less conflicts these days ..as there are spare channels in abundance ;)
..but for the purposes of this slingbox issue ..
I'm not sure RF ..and therefore TV standards are relevant..

..perhaps I should expand a little ..
Certainly audio will be ok ..
Certainly colour and video content will be ok ..
The only issues I can see are aspect ratios (scan(line/frame) rate)..which may well vary according to adopted broadcast formats in each country ..
But since most modern TV's are auto adjusting in this regard ..
The TV should automatically accommodate the supplied image..
..at least ..thats the way I perceive it..

NTSC/PAL conversion, eh?

When I was an Apprentice at Marconi, we made a transcoding system called DICE (Digital Intercontinental Coding Equipment).

If I recall correctly, it consisted of around eight man-high 19" rack assemblies plus tons of ancillaries.

$80? Pah. £Hundreds of thousands, more like!

Hi Tivu
A Marconi Apprentice.! That was along time ago !! Particularly the multiple racks era. I had two tours with Marconi. One at Basildon ,the other at Leicester.
Where were you?

MCSL at New Street and Great Baddow, GEC Mobile Radio also at Baddow, other odds and sods.

Did a lot on Sat Comms, long before this new fangled DTH TV and Radio came of age.

This was all in Arnie's day, when cash was king.

Where has it all gone now? Both the cash and the company!

hello to all,
ok the sling in the usa is different than the sling in the uk europe.
it has a composit signal and it is american sling it will output in ntsc.
i called them once 2 years ago to ask.
the stream is stream,i was receiving bbc fron the uk on a sling test and bbc is pal color but my interface was ntsc and i was getting bbc in ntsc.
i did a test with HBO signal and it was good as well.
you can connect the sling up to a uk tv via rca sinch cables and see what the grafics look like.
if you get the color on a pal uk tv with a sling box usa then you are fine.
if not the system converter we have tested about 10 of these and it works like a champ.:-righton
it costs about $80 plus shipping .it will accept a pal or ntsc and convert it to a HDMI signal.
we took sky italia boxes and connect it composit via scart and it converted it to HDMI on an american tv and it worked like a champ.
$80 is a lot less than $900 plus for another tv .
the adsl we did a check as well.
in italy 7 mega is realy 3.5 mega down load. and 256k up.
the sling locks in and runns up as high as possible.it clocked in at 1.8 mega to 2 mega bits / sec and we got a good picture.
but if the transmitting end has a up speed of 256k/sec than you can not expect much.
if you find a provider in the usa than can uplink at a speed of 3 to 4 meg than you can expect a good picture on your end if your internet will download at 3.5 meg or better.
this girl in italy is watching tv from her brother's house and he got the internet upgraded in the states to faster uplink speed and she is geting tv from the states.
hope this helps someone
