Your latest Virgin Media Bill cannot be processed

Dear william **********************

The payment for your latest Virgin Media bill has failed.
The payment processor has detected invalid billing information associated with your account.
Your service is now scheduled for automatic disconnection on 27 February, 2016.

Why did I receive this error?

This usually happens for several reasons. Either some of your information has expired or you may have changed some of your billing
information recently, such as street address, phone number, account number, etc.

How can I avoid service interruption?

To avoid service interruption make sure your billing information is up to date.
Failure to take part in this process before the due date will result in service disconnection without further notice.

Where can I update my billing information?

To update your billing information just visit the profile update link below:

******my.virginmedia.com/vm_s*******************************
Once you have completed the profile update process your bill will be processed instantly. No further action is required. (While we empty your bank A/C )

Kind regards,

The Virgin Media team

So I phoned VM & they said my A/C was up to date & this was a scam they were aware of,

So my advice to you is not to click on the link to fill in your bank details just dump this e-mail.

I'm in the same boat William, i reported it to Virgin about three weeks ago.
I traced my emails origin back to Malaysia.
I must have received about six or seven attempts by them, the most recent was this morning, worded differently sometimes, sometimes with spelling mistakes.

It would be interesting to see if any non Virgin Media customers are receiving this email. If it's just VM customers being targeted then this implies they have breached VM security somehow and are working from their customer base.

I'm not a VM customer and I haven't received this (or any variant) email.

Just waiting for the first person to pipe up that they're not with Virgin but have received the email.

Could be a long wait...

It might not be a data breach

The spammers could just be firing off to random @virginmedia.com email addresses to see if anyone replies.

It will be interesting if anyone replies who has received the email to an @blueyonder or an @telewest or the old @ntl legacy email accounts that are still active (that in my eyes would constitute a data breach as hardly anyone uses those now and most have updated to @vm email accounts)

I'm with VM, they NEVER EVER send me (or SWMBO as its now in her name) emails regarding bills, its always a letter in the post.

I don't pay by Direct Debit as the banks have stupid fees if the DD fails so I always ring up and pay by card (or pay online), on the occasions where I've missed the payment they send an SMS text to the landline saying call VM or they put a letter in the post asking to call them.

The best way to deal with VM if you get an email or letter of this nature (even if it's real) is to ignore it and wait until they cut you off or the deadline passes.
If the deadline passes and nothing happens you know it's a scam as you have done nothing to remedy the situation and it should be reported to VM, trading standards and Action Fraud online, if they do cut you off, ring 150 and choose the option to say you want to leave or change services, then the option to say you want to leave and don't want to bring your services with you (*see below), that will get you the retentions department at Preston Farm in Stockton and they'll have you reconnected and discounted in 10 minutes flat.

* Dial 150 then option 1 for tv, broadband and landline, option 1 again to talk about the account linked to the landline you're calling from then choose option 4 to change services and option 5 for cancelling services

As a side note, when ever I call VM I always go through to retentions, they're nearly always local to me and are good at what they do, plus they get a commission for every customer they "retain" so will bend over backwards to help if they think you are going to leave and have access to some of the biggest discounts VM dish out

my old ntlworld account was shut down by them a few years back when they realised that I hadn't been a customer for many years, I knew they were slow, but that took the biscuit... :-rofl2

My old @ntlworld account lasted forever before they cottoned on and killed it off but I was told that some people who have been customers from the early days still have their old email addresses and are refusing to update to the newer VM email addresses
