Update I have ordered replacements from Dave at SSS.

They are also fabricating the two custom brackets.

All the brackets will then be galvanised.

Total cost including galvanising and delivery £677.

I had to think hard on that one : )

The originals are fine, I will be offering them all for sale after a close inspection of the corrosion.

Inox would have been cheaper.

If the old ones are without serious corrosion it would need little more than a sand blast and powdercoat, or cover in fibreglass / marine resin making them practically inert to the elements.

Good evening Channel Hopper,

Having the replacement set on hand, I hope to be able to replace the originals one at a time.

Even if the raw bolts do not line up, I can fit the replacement brackets up or down from the original position without taking the pole down.

I have found powder coatings crack, especially where bolts are and against the walls.

Fiberglas may be better as you mentioned.

Galvanising has been good on our sun balcony, it is 12 meters long with galvanised metal railings, they have stood the sea air since 1988 : )

The bottom two brackets which are original SSS design, have little rust on them and will be a good buy for anyone.

The two I modified with a hack saw drill and large hammer, lost a lot of the original powder coating.

I will take some of the replacement paint off to see if the rust is just surface, before offering them for sale.

I was going to go for stainless steel bolts, but it would have added even more to the cost.

Perhaps replace them later.

The installation is my baby as cars are to some folks, cars are just a means to me, our C5 cost £200, leather seats, 2 litre petrol automatic, no rust.

Mind you it had done 150000 miles and came with a custom scratch down one side : )

Good afternoon gentlemen from Mullion Cove Cornwall.

Where the sun always shines, that is except yesterday when it poured down all day : )

My new galvanised wall brackets and stand off bracket have arrived from SSS.

All looks good except the pole clamps which are the wrong size and three short.

Dave has been informed : )

Would you need two more stand-offs or am I misunderstanding it?

No just one attached to the main mast to hold a short second mast.

The main mast has a Precision mount with KU dish, it has to fit on the top end of the mast.

The stand off bracket mounts further down on the main mast, holding the short section of second mast with another Precision mount and C band dish.

It is the same as I have now, with out the rust : )

Just received notification from DHL for Wednesday delivery of the correct clamps.

I am wondering if to paint the Galvanising, as though it protects fine against the sea air, it still ends up looking messy

Perhaps WD 40 or oil.

The clamps and bolts are going to corrode so either paint or grease ?

Any advice would be appreciated : )

consider waxoyl clear rust treatment as protection, messy going on but when dry leaves a protective waxy finish.

Good evening Channel Hopper,

The sun is getting low so the image is a little dark : )

Taken from our bedroom window due west.

I always say 50 yards but it is not far, the foam hits our windows when it blows.

If you wipe your finger on the dishes, you can taste the salt : )

I shall have to ask Jeff next door about that, he is always messing about with his boat : )

One thing that is amazing in salt water is stainless steel.

There are stainless steel metal ties use on the harbour wall, with large nuts and bolts.

Our grandson found one of the nuts in the sea, it must have been there a few years since they did the work and dropped it, it was spotless : )

You certainly did Channel Hopper, it would have been ideal : )

I did not go into that one though, as I assumed the cost would have been even higher ?

It may be that SSS would not have been able to make them in that material.

I wanted the wall brackets to use the same wall bolt fixings as the SSS ones now in use, also so that I can change them one at a time without taking the lot down.

No guarantee they are going to line up though : )

We shall see, the replacement mast clamps of the correct size should arrive tomorrow.

If we had the land, a movable covering similar to the type used for telescopes would be nice, it would protect the equipment while not in use.

Remote controlled of course : )

I wasn't thinking of SSS as a supplier of inox parts, there is enough assistance and product manufacture and delivery within this forum.

Good morning Channel Hopper, we have a lovely sunny day here : )

Thank you for your advice, as with all things different routs can be taken.

I only had so much mental energy to go on that one : )

Stainless steel would have been lovely and maybe not as expensive as I thought, I don't know.

There are still lots of other fittings on the installation that will corrode in time.

It is sad that items that are made to experience the weather, are often made of the wrong material, or poorly painted / coated so that they require replacing.

It would go a long way to preserving the resources of out beautiful world, if things were made to last.

If we did not have to constantly replace items poorly made to fail, we would not need to make it a throwaway world to make more money.

It is not my way, but as others I have to live with it : )

Similarly, a lot of systems I have had to fix have clear redundancy built in, guaranteeing a return and repeat work for the original installer, had they not moved onto others to rip off, or gone out of business for being useless.

It is a sad situation, we have given up with roofers and builders and now do it all ourselves. : )

One good thing is that equipment such as TVs are a lot more reliable now, the valves and the heat used to fry everything.

I am making a replacement for the mechanical vibrator in my MK3 19 Set at the moment, using A PAIR OF 2N3055 transistors.

If anyone has problems with the vibrator in one of these sets, the contacts get covered with a film produced from the sponge inside vaporising.

I found nail varnish remover cleared what was left ,after a careful scraping with a Stanley knife.

The set works well 1940s vintage.

Good afternoon from a warm but overcast Mullion Cove : )

The three new galvanised brackets and one stand off bracket are now installed.

Looking at the old ones, I would not recommend the SSS powder coating at all.

If it had been any good, I would not have had to fork out £677 to replace them so soon.

It could be that at locations away from the sea they would weather a lot beter.

They will at extra cost, have them galvanised if requested : )

The custom bracket and stand off SSS made for me are well done and fit perfectly.

There service is fast, and if anthing is missing or wrong as the u clamps were, they are very quick to send the correct parts : )

I have listed two of the old ones in the Classified section.

Offers - 550mm stand-off wall mount brackets £140 including carriage for the two.

God Bless Spiff
