Hi everyone
I'm looking for some advise on a freesat box for my mother UK based
I need twin tuner
IR remote facility
No need for 4K

Just need advice on a stable box to set her up with. She currently has Sky HD but everything she watches are free channels so looking to save her some money.

Any advice welcome.

Cheers

Are you talking Freesat or FTA. You’ll probably get all the channels you need with something like a cheap combo box, DVBS and DVBT so I imagine a small antenna and a small dish would cover everything she needs. Maybe just give an example of the channels she watches and you’ll be pointed in the right direction.

As Lazarus says above, the Freesat choice of receivers is pretty limited. When you say IR remote facility, do you mean the ability to view in a second room and change the channel? This is not a facility as far as I know available on Freesat units, unless you install a separate modulator with ir control.

Does she not have a terrestrial aerial, that would be an easier option if she does.

It would be worth knowing the channels that are essential viewing.

Does it have to be brand new box or is a second hand previous generation box worth considering?

Does anyone know if Sky still allow you to pay £10/month just for the Sky+ recording facility for FTA channels? It's a bit of a con but for some people it was worth it for the familiarity factor.

Humax HDR-1100S are GREAT!!!! You can also record using mobile app.
You can find them quite cheap on famous auction site (i paid around £100)

(it gives the option to use it in "Freesat" mode (official planner) or Satellite mode which reveals all channels on 28e - but the planner functionality disappears)
