Ok just re-installing the system over here and was wondering what Ku band should I get to replace my SMW type R , Other wise the SMW type R will be reinstalled . I was thinking of replacing it with a SMW Type E .
10.70 - 11.70 Ghz
11.70 - 12.75 Ghz

If SMW are not available what other Ku band lnbs are available that will work with my Technomate TM-5402 HD with a WR75 flange to fit the Ku port of the Chaparral Corotor .

Try search for NJRC 2842S, most viable and best performance.

Some years ago I tested one SMW Type E LNB on my old Corotor and it worked well. The main limits originated by the Corotor, not by the LNB. I used that setup with TM6900, so I assume that TM5402 would not have any problem.

Morning all thanks Channel Hopper I did look on ebay which ones are to talking about they have a SMW Type G and a few Type R for sale but I could not see any Type E . Or maybe it was some other manufacturer like Norsat or NJRC . There are many other Ku band with a WD75 flange but very few of them seem to cover the whole band and only just parts
10.70 - 11.70 Ghz
11.70 - 12.75 Ghz

All ok 7mdish on the Type E yes a yes years ago I did have the offer of a Type E from one of the other members of the group but I missed it and went for the Type R as on paper it looks fine . But if you go back a few years on this site you will come across the same discussed with some of the best tec men with the group and using the TYPE R should be used with a commercial receiver and using it with the TM5402 means you will miss out on a few channels . Nice to see some other person with a corotor I think this must be my third since it was installed in 1991 . Can some confirm how many channels there receiving on 4.8E Sirius I think now its called Astra 4A .

But I thought I will sort this out before I install the LNB back onto the Corotor as in my case I bolt the LNB straight on with no elbow so its a nut and bolt job so best done inside and not standing on a ladder 7 feet up . But I will keep searching Ebay and will look for a Type E . I did have a look at NJRC 2842S I have found a few on Ebay but there not 2842S there just for 11.70-12.75 parts of the sat band as for other dealers selling Japan Radio LNBs there very far and few between and only deal with Trade only . Thanks again guys for the feed back .

Well from looking at what is available it looks like I am going to need a SMW Type E or some other Ku LNB that covers :-
10.70 - 11.70 Ghz
11.70 - 12.75 Ghz

Most of the main manufacturers only deal direct to the trade so unless I have some luck finding some thing the old Type R will be reinstalled . I still receive about 200 channels on 4.8E Sirius 2/3 or I think its called Astra 4A these days founds lots of Ukian TV channels and news feeds plus all the feeds to the encrypted betting shops feeds . Can someone confirm have many channels there receiving on Astra 4A ?

If you really want a new SMW LNB, I suggest you to directly contact the factory in Sweden.
Many years ago I used this way to get my first PLL type LNB and they shipped one to my home after a credit card payment without any problem.
More than 10 years are gone now so I don't know the actual situation but you could try.
Check contact information on SMW web site and send an email or make a phone call. Let us know.

Morning yes I know all the guys up in SMW from 2 years ago seems like me they are into large bikes !! As for buying a LNB direct from them , They did say at first that I have to go via a UK dealer this was when I was looking for a Type R since I was unaware of the problem with switching but it would seem that the Type R requires a commercial receiver due to the switching since I was looking for a Lnb to cover :-
10.70 - 11.70 Ghz
11.70 - 12.75 Ghz

But using the Type R with a TECHNOMATE TM-5402 yes it does work as I receive over 200 channels on Astra 4 / Sirius 4.8E . So SMW did change there minds about selling me direct but they wanted over £850 . In the end I bought a Type R for £400 from a dealer who was closing down so buying a Type E from SMW is a bit of a non runner due to the price . But these days its very hard to get any thing that has a WD75 flange .

The guy at SMW I spoke with before was very good as he sent me free O rings + bolts before :-

One of the other members of this group gave me some contact details of a other manufacturer so just checking that out at the moment as its under £200 . So will let you know how I get on . Can you move your dish to 4.8E Sirius 2/3 or Astra 4 and tell me how many channels you receive .

Thanks again

Just done a scan of Astra 4A only - from North Nottinghamshire / 2.2mtr Elite PF dish / lnb at focus / using a cheap Universal £9.50 PLL lnb modified for PF feed using a Precision scalar feed. / Rx: GTMedia GTCombo. Feed system not optimised as only a temp lash-up to do some earlier frequency checks for forum member moonbase .
Found 59 Tp's / 256 channels total.

Thanks John I dont think I am missing much as I am receiving 200 channels but looks like I am missing around 50 channels its hard to say how many TP and freq because the read out on the TECHNOMATE TM-5402 is all over the place with the SMW Type R . Looks like I should have got a SMW Type E .

The foot print of Astra 4 / Sirius 4.8E seems to cover from the uk to way over east so dont think there will be difference in signal with dish size plus I have a corotor in line with my 30 + year old 3.7m Precision dish and polarmount .

Looks like the replacement lnb is going to be a NJR2842S then with a bit of luck that should be it .

If i get a minute later i'll dig my TM5402 M3 out and have a scan on that out of curiousity.
My temp Ku lash-up just gives me the opportunity to see what a 2.2 mtr non optimised would do on Ku - i normally only use a CM 1.2 for dedicated Ku use fitted with a motorised Polarity using either a SMW pll E type with a 22k switch or as at the moment i'm giving an older SMW X-Line Type E DRO lnb on the 1.2.
Here's the temp 2.2mtr Ku lash-up on the normally dedicated 2.2mtr C-band rig.

Yes I see what you mean John ,Well my main receiver was a good old Echostar ad 3600ip but the problem was that the old receiver did not cover Mpeg 4 I think it only covers Meg 2 but no body seems to make a receiver these days with a dish positioner skew controler so I use the TECHNOMATE TM-5402 as the receiver and the Echostar for dish and skew . I do have a ACS1 but not got round to installing it yet I loaned out my dish and mount for about 18 months .So while in bits thought I would sort out the Ku Lnb . But I have all the old catalogues here from the 1990 showing the good old days of the dragon satellite cams . The only problem I have found with Corotors , Twisters and feeds is corrosion and need changing out every 10 years .
