I had 330x280x15mm heat sink since long time ago I could not figure out how to use it. Finally decided to make additional light source in the garage. When years are passing by we need more light you know! :confused
So, attached 4x30watts (I think they are 30watts) LED-chips and 4 fans on the back of the plate. For fans used 12DC 1A power supply. Made special holder which is adjustable in all directions and hanged it ~3m high. I must say it is quite bright right now in the main working zone. Of course will use this light when there is need for it.

The motto is thus "never throw anything "useful" away" :)

One of the most useful things for the garage IMHO is the welder. I just got my new "toy" delivered today, already love it. :)

I've seen MIG and TIG, what is WIG lol?
I'm guessing that's inverter by the size of it.

Might be the same as TIG. The old name for Tungsten was Wolfram.

Correct: TIG=WIG. I got this apparatus cuz it has up&down slopes and pulse mode.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Surely the advantage is the ease at creating things out of billet aluminium ?

They've built new car-wash nearby. I saw some canisters there and asked whether it is OK to take them. The man said why not. I think if I remove one wall from each canister and put them on the shelve than it will be possible to store lots of stuff inside. Size of the canisters 26x29x36cm.

Fill them with sand or concrete for ballasts when testing satellite dishes on temporary mounts :)

Additional temporary testing mounts not for me, I already have more than enough. And existing solutions much neater than possible temporary mounts supported by lots of heavy canisters.

I can't quite see the friendly warning on the side of them.

If canisters be full they could be some kind of a danger (if swallowed of used as an eye-drops) but empty are fine.

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
Having installed and changed the dishes down the garden a number of times over the last 15+yrs, and thus having rather too many cables running between there and the house, I've rather "lost the plot" as to which (apart from the 3-4 I KNOW are working) are connected to what (if anything!) - thus an identification and marking session is long overdue, but would take a long time (and a lot of walking to and for between the dishes and the house).

Therefore I was looking for some reasonably priced test equipment that could help - most of what I found were normal network/phone testers that could be used with F-connector adaptors to check out one cable at time, which again would involve a lot of walking up and down the garden.

However, I have now found this "SAC ELectronics F-Type 8 Way Co Axial Cable Mapper" at £33.88 on Amazon which looks as it will make the job a LOT easier - so just ordered one and will see how well it works (the User reviews seem promising:))

It was actually very useful and worked very well and helped me to identify all of the 6-8 cables that run from the office and the lounge to the far end of the garden where the dishes are.

However, once that was done, then there was actually very little further need for it, and so I returned it to Amazon as "no longer required"! OTOH, I was very careful to keep the meter, the terminators and the case very clean, and I put the battery blanking strip back over the 2x CR2032 batteries, and so the next person who "borrows" it (and I am pretty sure I was not the first to do that, judging by the state of the box it came in!) will have a "good experience" with it!

Anyway, by way of something more "up-to-date", from 10th Jan, Lidl will be selling a "car creeper" for the garage, but this one is like none that I have come across before because it folds up to become a stool on wheels! - see,Powerfix Profi 2-in-1 Car Creeper and Stool

That could very useful for a number of reasons, one of which is that it has far more uses than the old rigid one I inherited from my father-in-law a few years ago (and which spends most of its time stored under a bench).

A few more things in Lidl this week:
- Parkside 12V Cordless Rotary Tool for £16.99 Parkside 12V Cordless Rotary Tool - at Lidl UK - somewhat larger than similar products (on Amazon/ebay, etc.) but looks quite powerful from relevant YouTube videos
PS: Amazon reviews of similar tools recommend fitting a Dremel toolless chuck to tools like these.
- Parkside Rotary Tool Accessory Set for £12.99 Parkside Rotary Tool Accessory Set - at Lidl UK - useful for the above and any other standard small rotary tool
- for anyone without a half-decent DMM, the Powerfix Profi Digital Multimeter Powerfix Profi Digital Multimeter - at Lidl UK for £9.99 - Auto OFF, Hold button, and, quite unusually, a 1kHz square wave sig gen for circuit testing & tracing (never seen than on a handheld DMM before).

Been to Lidl again!!!

Bought one of their Parkside (actually Kompenass) 12v portable drills for use in the house because it is smaller and lighter than the Bosch Pro pair that are great for heavier tasks - and because the battery looked to be identical to the ones used in the small 12V angle grinder (Grizzly Tools/Motodox) that I bought last year (and proved very handy in places where a mains-powered one would be too unweildy) - and for which I then bought 2x spare batteries.

Well, it looked identical but the Grizzly battery wouldn't fit the Kompenass drill - until, that is, 5 mins with a sharp kraft blade removed the very small strakes on 2 sides of that battery, and now it fits and runs the Kompenass drill. Thus I now have 4 batteries which can fit both tools :).

PS: A load of Parkside-badged workshop tools now coming into stock, just like this time last year

Lidl DIY tools time again - mostly the same stuff as this time last year but some new additions:

Now: DIY from Sunday, 03.02. at Lidl UK

Next week from the 14th: 50l compressor and a range of air tools & accessories, Metal Cut-off Grinder like I bought last year, and a new cordless 20V brushless drill (these are in the instore flyers but not yet on the website)

Looks the same as on stores over here, too bad I always ended up with problems with every tool or other electronic stuff I bought on Lidl, and the after-sales service is a joke here.
