Nice one, thanks for that.I've gone back to the ones that worked for me back in the uk also.
The frequencies I put in last for spain weren't locking on just a bit further up the road at benicarlo so never used it till we got back to blighty as we were only there overnight on the way back home.

Great! We used ours this summer again, and everywhere we went it locked on pretty quickly. We even managed to pick up a signal in northern France which was a first!

We will fight to the death.......!!

Hello again folks especially HelenH and mid4did.

Just to update you all that continue to use the MagicSat 2002a we have just returned from our first outing this year and I can confirm that my post #177 is still valid with these settings having not changed since we last used the system in November 2016.

Frequency: Polarity: Signal: Mode:
10714 H Y D
10758 V Y D
10773 H Y D
10788 V Y D

We used the satellite in various locations during our cruise down the Grand Union Canal towards London and the dish locked on successfully requiring only one pass to acquire Astra 28.2 East.

Hopefully mid4did will be able to confirm the settings he gave as in post #172 and/or #178 are also still valid.

May I echo HelenH from post #182 - We will fight to the death .........!!

Great news Rvator and HelenH.I can confirm mine is still working OK. I have been taking the camper down to Plymouth as I,m now the owner of a boat and have been doing some antifouling and further maintenance. All back in the water now. While there the dish locked on fine using the same settings as my last post. I,ll be travelling down through France and Spain again later in august so will report back again. No surrender

All changed today when I did a test prior to my trip down through europe later in August.I couldn't get the system to lock on.
My first attempt at putting in frequencies was a success.Looking back through the posts I chose footprint 2E UK ,SR-FEC 27500/06 and adjusted the first4 criteria as this:
Frequency: Polarity: Signal: Mode:
10906 V Y D
10891 H Y D
12304 H Y D
11426 V Y D
Now looking at likely settings for the south europe beam.I'll be doing them likely as not with a cold beer in hand in warmer climes.
Still hanging in there, who needs an Oyster 3 autoskew ? ;);)

Proper job!

It is really useful between us remaining users to have confirmation of several frequency combinations that are known will lock onto the satellite not least here in the UK but over the water in continental Europe so we are depending on you to work out some others as you travel down south beer in hand.

Out of interest were you able to find out what frequency(s) had changed between May when you reported normal operation and your last post?

Hopefully HelenH is still with us and maybe will post how things are with her system after that with the lack of activity on this thread I'm thinking we are 'The Last Of The Mohicans' to quote a well known film.

p.s what type of boat do you have in Plymouth?

As a relative newcomer to this system, perhaps I got lucky, well I certainly got lucky in choosing frequencies that worked last time.I notice now that my last choice that worked in the uk are on the europe footprint so perhaps they are not a strong enough signal here in the uk but may work further south?
I did have boat up until last week on moorings in Plymouth but I sold it last week.It was a Colvic 26 foot fishing boat moored on trot moorings.I can now concentrate on being a pensioner with a motorhome :)

You could well be right in your choice of frequencies having a foot print more aligned with Europe than the UK, you will find out.

As with the four frequencies, although I have no idea as to why it would have any impact at all I would have them in pairs i.e 1 and 2 then 3 and 4 with the 'H' polarisation first followed by the 'V' only because my logic says the dish has to rotate in azimuth initially to find a satellite transmitting on the 'H' configured frequency and then fine tunes the elevation afterwards with the 'V' configured frequency.

If you have the opportunity before heading off south maybe you could pick a spare channel number or two instead of 402 perhaps for satellites you know you will never use and get configured in advance for your alternative choices. A useful task while stuck in the UK in the rain and not out in Spain interfering with the beer and relax time.

Have a good one.

Morning all from sunny spain.
Now in Benicassim north of valencia and had to retune again.
This time I chose the first 4 frequencies on 2g europe and voila .
Can anyone explain why I could get channel 5 and some other channels, challenge tru movies etc down in javea but only Sky news and some uk radio stations here in Benicassim.
Not too worried as I,m listening to Absolute radio which will do me.
frequencies I set were:

1. 11082 H Y Digital

2. 11112 H Y Digital

3. 11141 H Y Digital

4. 11171 H Y Digital
regards all

Hello Pete

Great to hear from you and greetings from not so sunny UK. We have been out two weeks now cruising the Oxford Canal and the Thames. So far on every mooring the dish has locked onto Astra 28,2E using the frequency settings for central UK that thankfully remain remain valid.

Not surprised you have needed to retune the other set of frequencies as you move south but at least the methodology we have adopted has proved successful.

I don't have my printout of the frequencies with me so I am just quessing on why you don't get all the tv channels that come up on the other criteria. I see you have selected all H polarisation could be you need at least one V polarisation frequency after that maybe the satellite only beams certain tv stations towards the UK.

Would be useful to know why if you do find out or someone else has the answer.

Good luck with you holiday.

Cheers
Rvator.

Hi bob,
All seems to ok now in as far as I can get channel 5 including hd and some others that I got a bit further south. It has been a bit cloudy but a clear sky today.
I did wonder about putting all horizontal polarization in but it seems to work.I won't bother fiddling with it anymore as I,m moving tomorrow(monday).I,m going over the pyrenees hoping to park at laruns next to a lake for a couple days so hope to be able to get something there,we shall see :)
Happy boating .
best regards mid4did

Hello. Do you have any frequencies for Thor 0.8W or Hellas3 39E? The dish is locking on Astra 19.2E, but cannot find Thor or Hellas3. Thanks.
PS: Sorry for my English

Hello again folks

Just to update you all that continue to use the MagicSat 2002a.

After Covid restrictions we had our first trip in May and found that the dish locked successfully onto the last used alignment which was in the marina and still tuned UK stations but out on the cruise and re aligning at a different location it located Astra 28.2 East but only tuned EU stations.

Suspected a changed frequency.
Have just returned from another visit and implemented a frequency change.

Reference my post #185 with following criteria:-

Frequency: Polarity: Signal: Mode:
10714 H Y D
10758 V Y D
10773 H Y D
10788 V Y D

A check of FlySat.com revealed that 10758 appears to have ceased to be active so the criteria used now has changed to the following:-

Frequency: Polarity: Signal: Mode:
10714 H Y D
10773 H Y D
10788 V Y D
10803 H Y D

The dish successfully located Astra 28.2 East and tuned UK stations.

If there are any other users of the MagicSat 2002a still out there keep the faith.

Brgds
Rvator

As a post script 10803 which is horizontal polarity was used although 10818 which is vertical polarity probably would also be okay.

EU stations as in channels on the Europe beams of 28.2°E or channels from other countries (i.e. the dish wasn't actually locked on 28.2°E)? Was the trip in UK waters or further afar?
