DAB+ is an upgrade of the current DAB system, the main advantage being that it is three times as efficient meaning that it can carry far more stations and at a far higher audio quality than on DAB.
Other benefits include transmission costs being far lower; less spectrum being required; reception quality is far more robust; and DAB+ is a much greener technology because the overall transmission power required is far lower.

What is dab+ ?
Al the great belgian radio Chanels and Some special genre radio Chanels can be received in Belgium with DAB+
I thought you would know because DAB+ has been everywhere in the news in Belgium for the past year! And because your name is “LeBelge” I thought you’d know :-)

When you say 'far higher quality' audio.....

Additionally the green energy claim is somewhat far fetched. It might be cheaper to broadcast, but reception of stations is in some cases significantly higher in terms of the number of peasants being burnt, thanks to the chipsets involved in the signal processing.

DAB+ doesn't use less power if all they do is fit more stations in. It has better error correction apparently, though in practice I would say there is no difference if you have a weak signal compared to MP2. Also DAB suffers from poor bitrates used in order to cram in more stations and the audio quality is bad because of this. AAC+ should have solved this problem but they are using too low bitrates again to fit in even more stations so we are back to square one again. Its all down to cost and profit. Fit more stations in at low bitrates - that means more revenue for the DAB TX operator. Have 1 MUX with maximum number of stations before it becomes totally unlistenable compared to virtually unlistenable, instead of paying for more MUXes. More TX's mean more electricity costs.

I'm surprised it's taken this long to start transmitting in AAC+ on satellite. MP2 is very old tech, some of the stations on 28 E are only 128K and sound pants, its the French, Dutch and Germans that use better quality and that goes for TV pictures too.

Yes DAB+ is certainly way better than DAB which is all the UK had until a few years ago...but re this DATA DAB+ mux on 39e is it possible to actually tune in ? I presume not

Why? Most people really dont care if a channel is SD or HD. And HD does nothing for a broadcaster apart from drive the transmission costs up.
