The TM 2600 MK3 is arriving today. Will install tomorrow. Does anyone know if this motor can be installed upside down so the motor shaft is facing up rather than down? Would it still track the arc?

No, it is for suspending only, you can invert the dish however to negate part of the height loss.

Thanks, Will try inverting dish also and see how it goes.

Try hanging it normally first, see how mch you have lost on either side of the arc.

Inverting on a tall pole is not as easy as it looks.

Just set up the new motor and not receiving signal from any satellite. Not sure what is going wrong. The motor itself was easier to setup than Stab, but not sure why receiver has 0% SNR even on 28.2 east. The dish still has line of sight on all east sats. The receiver tuner is set on simple and USALS. I even tried changing to Diseqc 1,2 and still the same. The receiver cable is connected to the connector on the LED side of the motor and the lnb cable is connected to the other. The LED is green.

Any ideas.

Seems like the combination of dish and new motor is likely not tracking the arc anywhere near correctly - so have you followed the "basic" procedure for setting up a new dish/motor combo, i.e. "tune it up" on your southern-most satellite (Thor @0.8W?) in terms of the motor longitude setting and dish elevation/declination, then, after that, "tweak" the longitude and dish elevation settings to get the system to track the arc correctly?

When I had the Stab motor installed i marked on the mast with tippex so I know approx. motor position and due south. I was picking up signal when I had Stab. But with the Technomate not sure why its not picking up. Right now the base of dish is approx 25cm lower than it was on stab. Even so it should pick up signal on thor when I move the dish/motor east/west. I have to say that the base of the dish is blocked by bamboo fence which has isnt solid like a fence, but that only covers 10% of the dish from the base. Maybe I need to double check the cable coming from lnb to motor by connecting direct from lnb to receiver.

By the way I used the latitude markings on the motor mount to set to my latitude of 53.4.

Forget the latitude settings on the motor. Set the motor to zero and choose Sky on Thor 1 west, move slowly to east or west and you will get a signal. if not your elevation is out.

Always a good 1st step, after you have made sure that the motor is aimed a 0.8W

OTOH, many Thor transponders are "quite" strong (especially those with Chinese (CCTV ) channels on them) but both the longitude and elevation settings are rather critical in my limited experience - might be easier to get a signal on a sat that has really strong and not "too fussy" on the longitude setting, even though it's not near 0.8W. Thus I sometimes start as far away as 13E or even Astra 2 on 28E as, then, I can be sure that the LNB->motor>receiver combo is actually "working"!

OTOH2: I'm sure that many more experienced members will have better ideas!

Edited: agree with TJ about SKY on Thor - as strong as the Chinese Channels, or Al Jazeera.

I think that given the problems you are still having, a few photo's of your set up as it is now would help with a diagnosis...

With no reception at all, you might have an issue with the LNB and/or cable to the motor, but as mentioned a picture or three will confirm if it is the angle of dangle at fault.

Sky News on Thor I get with SNR of 90% and AGC of 81% so I have always found it easier to use that for the setting up.

And did you check if also a 'new' dish elevation is needed, because of (maybe) different bend angle in the motor shaft?

Thanks for the help everyone. Heres is the new setup. I will test the lnb when i get home. I set the dish elevation based on the booklet that came with the motor, however yesterday on approx due south i moved dish elevation up/down and motor left/right. Can test more things later in afternoon when i get home. Do you think the top of the bamboo fence has any affect?

THere's no way the latitude you've set on your motor is correct, it should be further up the scale. When you set it, check you are using the latitude scale. It looks like the dish elevation is set too low as well. The bamboo fence shouldn't have any effect.

Bearing in mind that my Clark Tech is mounted in an opposite manner to the Technomate, you can still see from the attached photo that my setting is much different to yours. I'm at 48 North by the way so only 4 degrees difference..

Yes, I did, but I'm not sure how that is relevant to RedAlert's current issues because he has a different dish on a different motor:confused

It shows the approximate bolt configuration and approximate angle of dangle.
