Can anyone recommend a non-penetrating ground stand for a Gibertini 1.5m I have just ordered? As cheap as possible whilst still managing to stay upright, please! :D

Well, it's only going to be outside maybe 10x a year for a few days each time (mainly summer) and the rest of its life sitting inside my garage so it's going to have an extremely easy life. Not really a high wind area, not going to be sheltered though.

If you are anywhere near W.London, you could have the one in this link - it came with my 1.25m Gibby this time last year, but has been sitting outside in pieces (so, relatively easy to transport) since then as I don't need it, and neither it seemed did anyone else!

I'm afraid I'm not able to collect which is a shame as that looked pretty much perfect.

Need something delivered, ideally £80-100 or less (if possible?!) as I've already spent enough on this dish :D

For me that would be something like a 220-230 mile round trip - will think about that - might work for a "day out" with SWMBO though, and so will discuss that with her later!

That is too small for a 1.5m installation even in slight winds. If it doesn't tip over , it will slide on a wet flat surface.

The NPMM required for a 1.5m dish should ideally be of a similar base, (Baird used to make a 6' version) but it looks to have been discontinued. Their current model with the 75mm mast

is lighter and Baird rate it at 1.2m only, though it should work with the larger antenna in a relatively sheltered spot, without guarantee though.

Anyway you look at the situation, @RachelM 's plan to move the system in and out of the garage fairly often is going to be "tricky" because of the sheer weight of the dish and NPGM unless the whole system is going to be on heavy-duty locking castors. Even then it would probably need to be set on something like an old wooden pallet. OTOH, if the frame was to have the castors fitted directly to it, then that would likely be more stable if it were a "single piece" construction (like mine is when assembled) rather than the Baird type with the two sections rather widely spaced .

BTW: I assume that you can put removable concrete slabs on the Baird because you can (4-off 1200mm x 1200mm) with mine (you can see those slabs in 2 of the photos in my listing because those shots were from what it was like before I bought it) - I was offered those when I bought the dish & mount but I had no need for them.

I was under the assumption - possiblly incorrect - the mounting could stay where it is, the dish being the part to be stored away when not in use.

A few things I should have mentioned:
The whole thing including mounting needs to be put away out of sight when not needed
Mounting disassembled and put in the garage taking up as least space as possible.
So ideally the most lightweight I can get away with without it moving when there's the slightest gust of wind which is hard ask for large-ish dish!

@RachelM

Thanks for clarifying those points as that has avoided a possible "difference of opinion" between @Channel Hopper & myself :-rofl2. Therefore I suggest that you to refer you back to Post #10 as, that, IMHO, outlines the only reasonably feasible solution of which I can think ATM.

BTW: as for taking up the least space in the garage, a mount like the one I have has (as shown in the listing photos) three main parts - and, for storage in the garage you could possibly detach the two horizontal rectangular sections whilst leaving the motor + dish attached to the mounting post on the middle one. You'd still have to very careful how you stored the latter combo as it could easily topple over, though!

To be honest I would be happy just to buy your NPGM from you and see what happens :-rofl2 Shouldn't be too bad if I get some nice heavy slabs. If it doesn't work then c'est la vie, I'll just have to spend more than I wanted to.

I'll have to see about collecting it from you, not sure when I'll be able to though.

I'm still trying to work out if we can come up your way, and maybe "meet somewhere in the middle" as that might be easier for both of us.

In that context, and assuming you are still interested in the ground mount, I suggest that we have further discussions via PM/A "Conversation" - contact me that way and let's see if we can work something out

Don't be surprised if you don't get a reply as I never did after she started a thread about a ground mount for her dish, and there then seemed to be a possibility that she could be interested in one that I (still!) have. So I asked her to PM me several weeks ago so that we could sort out some sort of delivery/collection arrangements - of course, she never did, and I haven't heard anything from her since then.
