I have found out there is one special drink available. It is especially useful on Fridays :Y IMG_20200605_221955 (Large).jpg

About a year ago I pointed to, and then bought, a Lidl 12V cordless garden saw, and it's actually been a very good and useful tool in both the garden, garage and the loft when I had to remove some flooring for the CCTV installation - and it's still going strong.:)

However, now Lidl are about to sell updated 20V versions of both that and a sabre saw which is essentially the same thing with slight differences and somewhat larger. Frankly, if that proves to be as good as the 12V version, then I can recommend buying one or the other as you will probably find it very useful - see here Fathers Day Gifts from Thursday, 11.06. at Lidl UK - as, whilst I won't be buying one of the new ones ATM, I'll keep them in mind if my 12V version does eventually fail.

Lidl again, from Sunday 2nd Aug - a "sat beeper" for £4.99.

Nothing unusual in that (although it's a bit cheaper than most of those on the online stores) except that, when you look at it closely, you see that it appears to have LED's to show the presence of 22kHz, 0Hz & 18V or 13V on the cable from the receiver - can't say I've seen those elsewhere.

Also, various other DIY/garage tools here.

Had one like that 20 years ago almost identical but black. The analogue attenuator knob was most handy, can be set just on the edge of a pitch change so even the slightest dish movement makes a difference.

Too late to edit, but realised that it could be quite handy just for when there is some doubt as to whether the cable to an LNB is "working properly" as it would show the 18V or 13V LEDs if the cable was reasonably sound, or probably neither if there is something seriously wrong with it. Will probably buy one a couple of days after 2nd Aug when I drop my wife off for her hairdressing appointment nearby as the drop-off point is just outside LIDL! :D

Bought one of those a couple of days ago, and it seems to work OK, with a couple of minor "niggles":
- an F-connector to F-connector coupling cable is supplied but at around 5" long it is very short
- the instruction booklet is quite good (all those safety warnings apart ) and accurate - apart from being "slightly out of date" where it describes the functions on the 22kHz & 0kHz LEDS, i.e.:
- 22kHz = "High frequency band active (= digital)"
- 0kHz = "Low frequency band active (= analogue)":D

Does it beep or is it a continuous tone? :)

A continuous, and quite loud, tone - you hear that change in volume level as you drive a dish between sats.

A picture ?
Original post #484 had a link to the pictures of it on the Lidl site - but it looks like they have deleted those now.

Attachment for a socket to allow careful tightening of a nut or bolt to a specific angle - as you might need when fitting (for example) a car cylinder head where the nuts/bolt need to be tightened to a specific torque, and then further tightened/loosened by a specific number of degrees of rotation, usually with some form of protractor marked in degrees over which the pointed end is then turned to the required angle.
(I have a similar tool for use with a torque wrench and that has both the pointer and the protractor :D !)

No and no
This is smaller version (but with same performance) of the tool as in my post #63. And it is to make clamps like this IMG_20200820_204709 (Large).jpg I will be using such a clamps on all my air, gas and water tubes.

Cordless impact wrenches are back in LIDL today, they went quickly last time but had more in stock when I went this morning.

From Thursday 15th LIDL are doing a lot more DIY tools - especially interesting is this cheap rechargeable Cordless Soldering Iron for £9.99, 'cause I always having "trouble" with the cord between the base station and the iron in my temp-controlled unit (very cramped around there and no room to rearrange stuff to reduce the problem).

By comparison, I had a look at what's available on Amazon & Ebay ATM, and there's nothing much in between the dirt cheap gas powered ones, or those that need a continuous USB supply, for around £15-25 and the "real rechargeable" ones that start at around £60 upwards (and a long way upwards for some of them!)

Just received a new CPC-Farnell catalogue and, browsing through that, I found a Duratools D03322 cordless soldering iron `which looks even better because of the slimmer part of the body where you hold it, and only just over 2x the cost (P&P free at that price) of the LIDL one - whereas the same thing on Amazon is just over £50 delivered!
Similar issue with the cost of spare bits - CPC = £1.26 (although on back order), ebay = £4.79.

Can't find any reviews of it, but might ask one of the family to get me one from CPC as a present for my birthday next week :D

I did get that Lidl soldering iron, and first impressions are that it certainly very good for that price (£10), reasonably comfortable to hold "pen style", heats up quickly, and the built-in LED for illuminating the "target" is adequately bright.

Interestingly, it has a 5V 1.7A dc wallwart PSU, USB A to USB C charging cable, and USB C ports on both the docking station and iron - and charged up from "dead" to full in about an hour or so.

Comes with a 3 Yr warrantee, and BTW appears to have been sourced from Grizzly Tools in Germany (although as to where it was actually made =??)

Thus, so far, I think that I can recommend grabbing one from LIDL if you have a local store that has some.

PS: I'll wait until the Duratool one (my wife agreed to buy me one for my birthday :D) turns up on Monday and see how they compare.
