...did a C band scan this afternoon and receiving 46 C band signals with a Q of 75 and Sig 70 from the way the signal is I would say there circular polarisation so the Norsat 3120F is working well . This is on Astra 4 / Sirius 2_3 Vert + Hoz...

The C-Band signals from 4.9E are all circular polarity but with your dish size you will be overcoming the signal loss caused by lack of a dielectric plate, unless you recently installed a dielectric plate in the feed throat?

The UK beam foorprint coverage of 4.9E in C-Band is reasonable, the bin lid kids are getting signals from it round 'ere. I have attached a table below of a scan I did last year on 4.9E in C-Band. I locked 13 of the 17 frequencies listed at the time with a Precision 2.0m dish. Once your 3.7m dish has the feed arrangement correctly aligned you should be wiping the floor with my humble signal levels if you are not already doing so.

A good test would be to get that dish on 38.0E and 43.1W in C-Band. They are both linear polarity and not an easy catch in the UK. They are truly satellites for the big dish men.

Hi MB Yes in the corotor I bought second hand your right its got no dielectric plate but looking at how to install one I think you might end up destroy the feed from what I have seen on YouTube . I think your far better off buying a new unit with one installed the only option is to clean up my old corotor and use that also means I would need to remove the skew motor and already one of the screws has sheared off . Even without it and no tweeks its 70% so not to bad . Not sure what the foot print is but most of the stuff is for west africa .

Yes once the dish is fully working I will have a play over 38.0E and 43.1W it should work fine as could go over past 60 east before as for 43 west I used to get a good signal on 45 west from Panam sat receiving channels for mexico and north + south america same goes for all the news feeds on 27 west I see the betting shops have lots of feeds on Ku on Astra 4A / Sirius 2_3 I think 30 years ago I think they were on 27 west but I have a lot of catching up to do as 30 years ago most of it was analogue then they bought out all the digital encryption .

Any many thanks for the list I will have a play but getting to grips with this meter now so I dont need to take over the TV in the lounge . Some time next week the ACD1 should arrive so more fun .

Thanks again .

You are quite right, the end user SIS downlink signals were from 27.5W many years ago and were encrypted in BMAC.

Ok Guys I got a reply from SMW the other day regarding the use of a Type R Ku Lnb and looks like its a none runner , Here is a copy of there reply so looks like the Lnb will end on Ebay .

Reply from SMW :-

Now to your questions. The standard LNBs and systems we have is only covering IF within 950-2150 MHz for the Ku-Band.

Those are the products we can offer for covering input frequency band 10.70-12.75 GHz.

1. Multiband (Q-PLL) LNB, 2-band type C; Band 1 10.70-11.70 GHz, IF 950-1950 MHz. Switching 13/18V or 13V + 22 kHz tone.

2. WDL PLL LNB type E, 10.7-12.75 GHz simultaneously, IF connector A: 950-1950 MHz (10.7-11.7 GHz), IF connector B: 1100-2150 MHz (11.7-12.75 GHz)

3. Dual System with LNA+BDCs, Different configurations.

See attached datasheets for the three above alternatives.

Regarding Multiband type R it is what it is and it can’t be reworked, see also in the datasheet.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

So there you have it

Cheers

Best regards / Med vänlig hälsning

@subman

It was always on the cards that the SMW type R LNB was going to be too complex to setup in a consumer grade receiver. What is Plan B ?

Morning MB well Plan B I think is to install the old quad LNB or find a Type E there is a few available on some of the other forums for about £125 but the main question is what I do with a £480 worth of Type R Lnb . I think I will put it up for sale on some of the other sat forums for £275 one thing is for sure I just want to finish this project before winter arrives .

I did not think that MTi made a quad Lnb with a WR75 flange .At the moment it looks like this .

If you deleted all channels and rescan horizontal, Jurnal TV HD should be saved around 11185H. Is there a second copy around 12585V?

If so that would indicate the 13v/22khz 10750 LO's IF range reaches up to 1985mhz and could make a 2 LO setup that covers the whole band possible.

BTW. Is there an answer to this question, yet?

With the Technomate TM-5402 you can do a separate blind scan Hoz then Vert or you can just do a Hoz and Vert togther . I think I have found a total of 324 channels 177 Vert + 147 Hoz .

I printed out the whole channel list from Flysat for Astra 4A / Sirus2/3 most things on the list I have found including Jurnal TV HD Moldova + Jurnal TV Moldove both seem to be part of the Moldovan Package on 12.735 Hoz but I seem to be getting it on 12.584 vert . I have checked on the list and can only find Jurnal TV HD Moldova .

The only straight for way to check is unbolt the Type R and re bolt back onto the corotor the old quad band LNB and see what that receives its just a pain because the corotor will have to be removed and set up again .

So when you get JurnalTV at both 11184H and 12584V (LOFs set as universal), that indeed indicates proof that you quite possibly can use this LNB on the whole Ku-band with just two LOFs, with 22kHz=ON; as ozumo indicated on July 24, and myself on July 30 (in a parallelthread of yours, not having read ozuma's posts).

Just need to define two separate sats for H and V, and a solution for your polarotor.

Nice analysis, @ozumo !

It would be nice should it be the case to cover the whole of the Ku band with just 2 x LOFs, with 22kHz=ON if not then I think its going to be a Type E just with switching 13/18V or 13V + 22 kHz tone . The only other way to double check is to switch back to my old quad ku band and make a note of channels that I can receive then do the same with the Type R .
Thanks again

Now we know you can cover the whole band with 2 LOs, a device as described by dreambox1959 in post #102 in combination with the ASC1 would enable you to use the SMW as if it were a universal LNB. Everything would be correct. The ASC1 would control corotor polarisation via voltage, and the 'device' would control LNB power & tone. It has to be a way forward.

Otherwise 2 satellites per position will cover everything with the Technomate LNB settings set to Single LO + 22khz on. Frequencies will be correct for either the low or high band, depending on if the LO is either 9750 or 10750.

Quad LNB is a marketing name, a full band in any other name.

For that: copy the exact settings of ozumo in post #14: under "Type 4".
Not sure what to set the polarity control at, though, as long as you have to do that manually for both H and V.

This way you'd end up with defining two satellites, one for Hor, one for Vert (both with exactly the same settings, and manually changing the polarity).
I've no knowledge about polarizers and how to control them, though.

subman you are a curious guy !
your lnb choice is not the best for a hobbyist dxer .
i gave you some tracks : another lnb like this one
or like this
your actual lnb is for fixed and professional use .
so the only way to use it with customer receiver is to build a small interface device or change it !

With off the shelf components, I think this would work? :confused It's a lot of equipment between LNB & receiver though.
Code:
                                        -> bias T with 13v ->
ASC1 -> DC Blocker -> SW21 22khz switch                       Splitter -> GR-11 22khz generator -> LNB
                                        -> bias T with 18v ->

Many thanks guys for all your feed back maybe we should look at this from a different angle What Channels cant I receive on Astra 4A / Sirus 2 . Forget the Echostar as that is only being used for dish control and skew .The ASC1 is not online yet . The list I am going by is www.flysat.com/astra4a-ses5.php From what I can see I have 2 options if I am unable to receive full coverage on the Type R .
1) Return to old quad Ku Lnb
2) Fit Type E with a 22 Khz switch

As for why I bought the Type R I was unaware that you required a commercial receiver to use it due to its odd switching arrangements but its not alone remember I was telling you about the Norsat 1008XU Quad-Band Ku (10.70- 12.75 GHz) LNB this one is the same .

I think at the moment there does seem a shortage of quad Ku band Lnbs with a WR75 flange and the only ones that are available are commercial I think the only non commercial Ku Lnb was the NJRC but the R Lnb was bought about 4 months ago for £480 so its a case of making the best out of what you have .

Yes A33 it might be the case of defining two satellites, one for Hor and one Vert .

So pick me out some channels and I will see if I can receive them . The Technomate TM-5402 is set up for universal LNB .

Thanks again
