it's not finding any channels.

what's an analyser? you are getting me excited, I love to investigate and problem solve.

the satellite is definitely in the same general direction shown on that website. obviously I cannot tell if it's correct to the nearest degree but it's pretty close if you ask me.
Analyser, or a basic signal level meter.

hi guys
this is regarding my problem from before (all FTA channels showing No Signal message)
so over the past few days, here are the things I did:
changed receiver, still no signal
changed LNB to new universal one which supposedly gets the FTA channels, no signal
moved satellite around both horizontally and vertically, no signal

the past few days our apartment management had workers on the roof doing something, my mom believes there was something on the satellite that they took. she swears there was something attached to the LNB. can you think of what this could have been? or what else I can do to test? I dont know what else could be wrong.

You were on the roof last time, what has changed ?

Why have you started another thread ?

you changed the lnb and if its the correct type & your dish is not shared with other flats nothing else needed for satellite signal what else someone can took it away it must be out of alingment better call a satellite engineer/installer to fix the problem as you are without channels since 25th August

the first day that the No Signal message started showing on every channel, my mom pointed to the LNB and said there was something there which has been removed. but she has a habit of being suspicious of people so I dont know if she is right. I am starting another thread because I figured nobody will see the other thread.

What make/model LNB did you get?
Can you please post pictures, of your dish.
Do you know which satellite/Satellites, your dish is pointing at?
Are you in America, pointing at satellites that broadcast in C Band, as in Europe we mainly use KU band.

You can't just move your dish, without using a satellite meter, as even the slightest movement can lose all the signal quality.

It is a fixed setup, I suppose, so not a motorized setup?

Is the line of sight towards the satellite still OK? (Or was that already checked, I didn't read all back.)

I'd first check the correct azimuth, with the sun method.
For that I'd use Satellite Look Angle Calculator
(fill in LAT and LONG, date you want, satelliteposition you want, and look for "Time when Sun Azimuth equals Satellite azimuth".)
Check that LNB is in fact left/right-wise exactly at the center of the dish, put a string or some tape from LNB to top of dish, and look at the indicated minute if the shadow of the string/tape is exactly at the center line of the dish. If not, correct the azimuth.

Do you, by chance, have a satellite finder/satellite beeper? They are cheap, and I think even a hobbyist should have one....

As it's a shared roof, are there any other dishes on the roof? If you disconnect the cable from the LNB at the dish, does the signal strength go to zero?

The satellite finder/beeper suggested by a33 is your best option for aligning the dish yourself. Otherwise take the original receiver and TV to the roof, select a channel that is known to be broadcasting and adjust the dish until pictures appear.

hi, I already removed the new LNB and put the old LNB back in.
here are 3 pictures of the satellite and old LNB

I dont know which satellites it's pointing at. I am in America and trying to get Galaxy 19 channels. It seems that someone has messed with my satellite because according to dishpointer it's pointing in the completely wrong direction, not even close. in its original state, signal intensity is 60% and signal quality is 0% but when I pointed it to where I think dishpointer is telling me to point it, and while I was on the phone with someone downstairs, they told me the signal intensity went to 90% and signal quality went to 42% but these numbers dont hold, I was able to replicate the same numbers a few times but it's just for a second and it goes back to 0% and after those few times that it went to 42% I was never able to replicate it again so I got frustrated and hung up the phone and came back down.

I dont know what motorized means, I am moving it by hand so I guess not motorized?
I dont think line of sight is an issue, I think someone has moved the satellite to the wrong direction, it's not where dishpointer is telling me to point it. I went to that website and got the time but I dont know what I am supposed to do with this information. I will get a satellite finder if it comes down to it, but how is that different from being on the phone and someone telling you "it went up" "it went to zero"

yes there are. if I disconnect the cable from the LNB, the signal intensity goes from 60 to 0
oh by the way, since I removed the old LNB and put it back in, the skew may not be correct. the skew is supposed to be -28.3 but the LNB doesn't have such number, it goes from 20 to 20 so I am not sure what to do about that. I cant take a tv up there because there are no power outlets there.

Try to get your signal quality back to 42%, then gently rotate the LNB, in both directions, and keep checking to see if the signal quality readings improve.

Is that rust, on your dish? Do you live near the sea, or other salt water?

When looking towards the front of the dish, the cables should be exiting the LNB at about 7 o'clock.

Well, that was exactly what I tried to describe in the lines below the link.
Anything unclear, there?
The sun has to shine at the indicated day and minute, though...

My elevation needs to be 44.2 degrees

These are the bolts that I believe control the elevation

these bolts are on the opposite side

1) I dont see anything about 44.2 on there. the numbers are like 3 0 4 0 5 0 6 0
how do I know if I am at 44.2
2) which bolt do I need to loosen to adjust? top? bottom? the ones on the opposite side? top? bottom?

this is not a picture of my LNB - I couldn't get a good picture of it due to lack of access but mine looks similar to this, it goes 20 to 0 to 20
my LNB needs to be at -28.3
where is -28.3 if the LNB goes from 20 to 0 to 20?

220 grit sand paper, then some rust-oleum rusty metal primer, follow this with some rust-oleum flat gray spray paint will fix the rust problems.

It seems fairly clear that your problem is one of a gross misalignment of Azimuth (bearing) and not Elevation, due to the dish being knocked.

Starting new topics is not helping others to help you and I have twice had to merge new related Threads today.

I suggest you employ a Satellite technician to re-align your dish and send the invoice to the guilty party for reimbursement.

my second thread was about how to adjust the elevation, so I didn't think it's related enough to this topic to continue it here. but thanks for merging the 2, it's better this way.
I don't know that the dish is knocked. I am thinking someone messed with it because it was not pointing to where I think dishpointer is telling me to point it. but I could be misinterpreting dishpointer.
also, it's not about money, I want to learn how to do this.

If you want to learn you need to buy a satellite meter or you need to take your receiver and tele on my the roof or buy a receiver which can connect to your smart phone as a learner you start with stronger satellites in your area.
