I am looking to install a single dish 3 satellite setup pointing at Astra 1, Astra 2, and Hotbird. Would this setup work near Warwick UK? : http://www.2galli.fr/parabole-visiosat-bisat-g3-a-sans-lnb-cahors-visiosat,fr,4,BISATG3A_SANSLNB.cfm

I am considering running the satellite feeds into a SAT IP box.
should be fine, those all have strong signals over the (southernish) UK. I can recommend the supplier (although have only taken delivery in France). FWIW I get all three easily with a T-90.

edit: not sure how much French you read but just to be clear that dish comes without LNB :)

Thanks for the reply and the tip about the LNBs. I was aware none were included. :) I am thinking of running a dual LNB on Astra 2 with single LNBs on Astra 1 and Hotbird.

OK :)
What receiver do you have and what are you planning to watch? A lot of French content on 19.2E is awkward to watch without an official receiver. Plenty of German content is available without a card, plus a bit of Italian on 13E.

I am planning on essentially watching free to air channels UK and German. I am guessing I may not need to access hotbird then. I don't want to over complicate the setup. I plan to get a SAT IP server and then access via various devices as clients with a SAT IP receiver as the main one. This the server I was looking at: http://www.triax.com/FindProduct/ProductDetails?product={A157E356-951B-4864-866D-C8DADE9AEA2B} If I was just going to use the 2 astra satellites I could use dual LNBs.

ok - am not familiar with this device but a quick look at the brochure indicates it needs quad or quattro LNBs, although you might be able to find a way around this if there are only certain parts of the frequency band that interest you. In order to provide full service for two satellites (19.2E and 28.2E for example) you'd need two such devices (and they aren't cheap) and two quad/quattro LNBs. Unless I'm missing something....

Thank you for your help. As I understand it, it just has 4 tuners so you can use a single quad lnb or 2 duals or 4 singles i suppose. Do you know what kind/size of LNBs I would need to use with the BISAT, it doesn't seem clear?: http://television.cahors-ced.com/images/products/fp-bisat-cahors.pdf
I've looked at the quick guide. The four ports are destined to be connected to the four outputs of a quattro or quad LNB. You thus need one box per satellite.

As far as LNBs go, any universal LNB - quad or quattro - should be OK. Inverto Ultras have a fairly good reputation here, although I don't remember the exact details of which incarnations (single, twin, quad, quattro) are stronger and weaker. Seeing as you're shooting for strong satellites you shouldn't worry too much about the exact LNB. I'd avoid narrows though if I were you - you don't need them and they're more sensitive to rain.

edit: OK, that last brochure shows narrows. You don't need them because you're not interested in 23.5E. Not sure where that leaves you as far as mounting is concerned, though.

You should be able to get the three main sats on either an 80 cm dish with three LNBs (e.g. centered on 19.2 / Astra 1, and one LNB on each side for 28.2E and 13E), or (better) on a toroidal T55 (WaveFrontier, but sold under several brand-names), which is slightly more awkward to set up..
You don't need a Visosat Bisat Big (although they are nice too - but not necessary).
I have a T55 here doing 19.2E, 13E, 5E, and 5W easily with 2500+ channels scanned...

Sounds great. Thank you. I am still researching SAT IP servers to work out whether the 4 tuners are truly independent or whether they have to be attached to a quad lnb? It doesn't seem very clear. I think the SAT IP protocol spec indicates you can use multiple satellites but the manufacturers seem to show their products with a quad lnb attached to the 4 tuners.

The box is going to act like a multiswitch, so each client needs to be able to access all polarization/frequency band combinations (V and H, hi and lo gives 4). Unless you are selective about what you need from each satellite eg satellite A V-lo, satellite B H-lo, you need one box per satellite :)

Thank you for that. It would seem like the Triax box works in this fashion but I think some of the other servers can process all the streams from individual transponders: http://avreviews.eu/digital-devices-octopus-net-network-tv-tuner-review/

I am not sure though. If it doesn't work I may have to go with a more traditional quad tuner receiver instead.

Aargh I've had a think about it and I no longer think that this statement is correct. The box contains 4 tuners and also handles the switching. Without reading the documentation in depth I'm not entirely sure what it does. In any case with 4 tuners you are limited (!) to 4 distinct streams although you might be able to have multiple devices watching the same stream.

I'm going to stop speculating any further - I have no direct experience and don't want to mislead you!

Thanks for your help. I sent this question off to Inverto about their box:

"Is it possible to access 4 separate satellites (Astra1,Astra2, hotbird etc.) using your 4 input sat IP server or does it require a quad lnb that can only be used on one satellite?"

They replied with this:

"this is no problem, since our IDL400s is supporting DiSEqC 1.0 and can therefore address four satellites.

I would recommend to use either 4 Quad LNBs and connect them by using 4 DiSEqC switches or use 4 Quattro LNBs and a multi switch with 16 inputs."

I have a visiosat big bisat dish for sale if you are willing to pick it up. Why settle for 3 when you could go for 9?
