From early today I have no signals @ 17°E in KU and C band but nothing mentioned yet on the official spacecom event portal .

Confirmed by spacecom, they have lost the connection with the satellite, they hope to get it back ASAP...

Yes , AMOS 5 has FAILED.

11 hours now with no service. There is not a single transponder on the bird functioning - seems to be total power loss.

All signals stopped abruptly at 04:45 UTC today.

I can confirm this as i monitor several carriers on this bird - it just disappeared this morning. Nothing seen since.

His post was sitting in the moderation queue for 20 minutes or so - all new members are auto moderated to try and stop the spam getting through. At that time none of the staff were around to approve the post. Once a new member has made a certain number of good posts (10 maybe - Im not sure of the exact number) further posts come through automatically.

Its not normally noticeable as some member of staff will be around during the day but this close to Christmas I guess many people were out with their families.

I recall the loss of Olympus at 19 West was down to a young member of staff pushing too many buttons, or

On 29 May an un-validated operational procedure was used .... :D

This one sounds like a major electrical failure, or possibly a space debris event as the beacons are off.

No doubt various big astronomy scopes will be pointing at 17E this evening to see if the old girl is still on station or has wandered off....

Didn't Amos 5 have a power shortage problem a couple of years ago ?

Yes it did have power anomaly's - in 2013.

Something not quite right about this bird almost since it launched. We see 1dB power jumps throughout the day and night - it happens all the time. Could say lots more but at this point best i be quiet.

services are being moved off AMOS 5 and over to EutelSat capacity....so i think that pretty much says it all.

this movement of services is not that. Its in direct response to the loss of AMOS 5.

Our teleport has abandoned services to AMOS 5 and is busy right now repointing large earth station antennas to other birds - so its pretty certain now AMOS 5 is dead. We really dont expect it to come back up now. Contact to the bird has still not been made.

Even the emergency communication circuits on the bird are down - something catastrophic happened to this bird.

Of course there is, but since there is spare capacity on Eutelsat, this is a natural response to losing transponders from Amos 5
