Hi - Folks -

About time i got round to documenting this project:) -- i purchased this dish for £399.00 on ebay over a year ago .. bidding in the last few seconds as no one else had bothered .... probably because it had to be collected from just outside Belfast ... anyway it was now mine... fuel and ferry costs for car +trailer added about another £300.00 :(... ferry 1.jpg ferry 2.jpg but i thought "what the hell" these 2.4 C.M. dishes and mounts don,t come up second hand very often .... it can be a project for my retirement .. :)

The only part of the dish setup not included in the purchase was the king post that the whole mount swivels on .. that was left on the roof of the building that it was originally located on (maybe to mount a different dish on?) ... here are some pics supplied by the chap i bought it from to show the assembly/setup .... it was in pieces in the sellers Garage when i collected it . as you see from the pics its a dual axis mount and has 2 large (Thompson Saginaw) jacks with it.

1.jpg 2.jpg

And so its been sat waiting (for a year) for me to get round to working on it .. which i have been .. on an off ... during the past couple of months.

But just for initial playing and testing i,v fastened the dish to the polar mount that held the Prodelin as its currently unused and solidly planted by my garage door --- its not ideal, as the weight balance is way too far forward from the pole and is a little springy in a strong wind
but its handy to work on here, and should not be in this spot for more than a few months ... The prodelin mount although very basic works well (even with a tiny old Echostar jack on it ) ..... pics showing how i,v fastened it to the Prodelin mount etc ...

Verrry nice! Look forward to further progress. Is this going to be a permanent fixture at some point - perhaps replacing the 1.8m?

I think it will probably end up where the 1.8 is now sitting .... once i,v finished messing about and decided what l.n.b. arrangement i want on it ... i,d like to try it with the reflector removed and 1 k/u and 2 C band l.n.b.,s like i have on the 1.8 .

yes indeed look forward to that ... had to wait some time for the right 2.4 c.m. to come my way :)
had the 1.8 c.m. over 15 years now been very happy with it .....

I have the same antenna like @nelson_b , an uplink antenna with subreflector, and I'd like to change it for normal arms , I would be most grateful if you had the kindness to share the exact measurement ,arms, lnb holder, etc..

Hi -- Offline most of last night -- due to a mains power cut ...
Yes you can see on the pic how its arranged ...

To answer previous post the parts i needed to make to join the two mounts were the angle iron and tube
17.jpg and the top support /adjuster etc 18.jpg i wanted to join them without cutting and altering either of the mounts . as this is by no means a permanent arrangement

I have a pic of the missing kingpost here -
19.jpg what i do have here is a hard plastic disc that sits on top of the kingpost for the whole mount arrangement to turn on ---20.jpg
a bit basic but if its well greased it probable works ok
also at the bottom of the kingpost sleeve are holes with welded nuts to fit adjusting bolts to take up any play ... again, probably ok if kept well greased

Not sure what/where i will end up, with this dish ... its early days and things only happen slowly here ... only just reaching the l.n.b arrangement/testing stage as yet :)
The dual axis mount is "ultra" heavy duty - and it would be a shame not to put it into use ...
but from a simple/ease of use point of view i would prefer a polar mount ... it would have to be very strong though the Dish and its metal supports are "heavy" ... i,l be interested to see what you create for your portable base/mount....;)

To use it with that mount you will need special part to control lnb you can get one that does ku and c band (not cheap) you will also need controller (not cheap) I was lucky to find controller for £400 £2000+new

Using polar mount is easy option big arc one not cheap £2000,

I make this
