I'm contemplating buying an "internet radio" device.
And would like feedback on experiences, such as
-how do you organise a radio list?
-must you use providers like Deezer or Spotify?
-Can you organise ,say
-2 French stations No 1 and 2
-3British stations in 3,4and 5
- and New orleans Jazz WOZ in 4,
-Radio Dehli in 5 etc?
-and my favorite local station in 6,7 etc?
or must you use ad hoc limitative lists, like those of Internet TV providers (Talk talk,Orange ,BT and the like)
that allow only what they decide suitable for you?

Each model will be different in operation and initial setting up.

Why not use a cheap mobile phone connected to a small set of speakers ? It won't need a SIM card inside.

Hello CH and thank you for the "mobile" idea! Very useful when traveling!
actually I' d like to get a great sound quality, connecting the sound source to good speakers via an amplifier which I already have.
More like a tuner deck.With a remote .
I already use radio streaming on line, and have connected the computer to the old amplifier via RCA,cable, works fine, great sound!
'this requires turning the computer on and can t be handled by remote control,at breakfast time for example!
And stand up everytime I wish to switch station ,mute or un-mute...
So,I 'm merely looking for comfort

I have a couple of internet radio's and i'm quite happy with them (about the functionality)
One table radio (Imperial Dabman 200)
One internet receiver from Onkyo (TX-8150)

The only advice I can give you is to buy from a good brand because some receivers start to do some funny things and stop working when you buy cheap brands...
If you find internet radios which support Tune-In radio, you will have no trouble searching your favorite stations, nor making favourite listings.

I have two internet radios but I'm afraid that I may not be much use as I bought them (in about 2015) for specific purposes.

In the UK I have a Pure One Flow. This is a combined FM/DAB/Internet radio and I can save stations for each of those bands separately. Most of the time I use it to listen to Radio Caroline which is saved as Favourite Station 1. When we went to Venice three years ago I took it with us so I could listen to The Archers on Radio 4. I also put Radio 2 on for my wife. The stations available to store are listed alphabetically and, IIRC, can be allocated to any memory position, you don't have to go 1, 2, 3... etc. But when you look at stored favourites it always starts at 1 so you would have scroll through quite a few if you decided to start further down the numbers.

The radio was supposed to replace an old AM/FM portable as well but the circuitry introduces a delay to the FM stations, as well as the DAB and internet ones so is seldom used for that. I have a few DAB stations (Absolute Classic Rock, Radio 4, Radio 2) stored as well. The radio only has one speaker but I have fed the earphone output into a set of computer speakers and it sounded OK to me.

Prior to that I made the mistake of buying a Sony NAS-C5E Giga Juke Internet Radio Player. This had great sound from its built-in amplifier and speakers but was crippled by the internet stations it could (or rather couldn't) access. I should have known better. I've been burned by Sony stuff before as it promises much but then find out that it fails in some stupid Sony-way-of-doing-things.

For France I have an internet radio tuner that I can't remember the name of! It feeds into my DVD surround sound system. There's a remote control to switch in and out of standby and change stations. The stations are stored by accessing the tuner using my laptop, I think by simply navigating to the tuner IP address and then searching there. I think there are two banks of 6 favourites.

I used to own an Internet Radio and although I loved it, the stations were scrapped and listed on the manufacturer’s own portal. This shut down last year and as a result most of the station links became broken. I’m now using an Amazon Echo Dot which works works wonderfully and plays most stations via the TuneIn or Radioplayer skill.

Should be back there in just under three weeks time.

I'm annoyed that I can't remember the name of the device and that I can't find any information on my laptop about it. I printed out a handbook for it so should have that somewhere!

I have the Pure one flow,Pure Evoke and the Roberts 93i
As PaulR,has already mentioned the Pure models list your favourites in alphabetical order, and Pure One can be controlled/though not organised using the Pure connect app on your smartphone or tablet
The Roberts 93i does list your favourites in alphabetical order, but in preset list ,not so but in the order you add them, you can use the Frontier portal to add/organise/create named folders/favourite stations or use the Undok app
It also has Spotify connect (though you have to be Spotify premium member)
The Roberts also comes with a remote control
Whereas you have to purchase a remote control for the Pure Evoke
No remote control is available for the Pure One
All the models have headphone socket, aux socket
You can also purchase an additional Bluetooth adapter for the Roberts,(not cheap at £40/50),to allow content to be played from your smartphone or tablet

On my Linux satellite box I have the connection string entered for internet stations; as PaulR, mainly Radio Caroline. This allows me to scroll through with the remote, with station names displayed.

@rodscha

As promised, this is the internet radio solution I have in France. It's a Pinnacle SoundBridge M400PX.

Just a thought. If Rodscha already has reasonable internet then one of the newer satellite receivers will have the ability to stream radio and TV off the broadband, which will provide the remote function as per the opening posts.

If it is to be used in the breakfast room then splitting the signal fromt he dish would provide dual functionality at a later date.

OOps! seems to have been marketed as early as 2006-2010,so "not in stock" at amazon!

Yes, but dmaavridgo extolled the virtue of broadband capability being ubiquitous, I mentioned a satellite multi-system more in keeping two + individuals under one roof happy despite having different requirements.

Oh yes, it's not a new device by any means but it does what I want. As it's old there are limitations as it can only play MP3 and WMA stations. RealAudio and AACplus stations are not supported. But what it does do is enough for me.

There are quite a few available on the bay of Evil, which is where I got mine through.

Most reviews etc seem to suggest it doesn't support WPA wifi, a big no no.
