Your VPN supplier should have the answers, on their website.
Most images change, over time, as do the skins.
There is a help option, on the IPvanish website, where you can ask them. I can see options for Android, Windows, and firesticks, and even Mac computers, but not Enigma 2 receivers.

In the past you had to use Filezilla, or other programs, to add the files manually, but as I said things change, as VPN's have become more popular, in everything, due to geo locked content, and privacy reasons, so it might be a lot easier now.

Thanks.
I'll ask on the IpVanish site & see what they say ?

I did find a guide, but again it's quite old, and I'm not sure if it is applicable, any longer, but if you google, how to setup IPVanish on enigma2, you should find it.

I have tried a couple of guides so far but in OpenVpn when I press the green button to start I get vix in the top left of the screen for a second but nothing else.
I'm obviously making a mistake somewhere but I've no idea what I'm doing wrong.
I've asked IpVanish for help but am waiting for them to come back to me.

Have you gone into your account, on IPvanish's site?
This is the guide I saw:

Yes I followed that one Mickha to the letter.
My problem is I just can't get OpenVpn to start running ?
When I press the Green button on the remote to start it I just get a small rotating vix in the top left corner of the screen for one or two seconds & nothing else. The Red, Yellow & Blue buttons all perform a function but not the Green ?
Surely OpenVpn should run even if I got the IpVanish details incorrect ?

I doubt it, as when you start OpenVpn it might be looking for some files, which aren't present. Do you have an OpenVPN folder, in etc?
Because your version, of OpenVIX, is more recent, then the old guides might not work, and because IPVanish doesn't have an Enigma 2 guide, on their website, it's a lot more difficult to work out the files required.

I followed the guide & have OpenVpn in etc but as you say with the recent Vix image things might be different.
I'll see what IpVanish come back with.
I'm sure someone has succeeded in getting it to work.

Perhaps, but they might have done it just in KODI, on their router, or when they had to manually add/edit files. If IpVanish supplied the files, and guides, for an Enigma 2 based receiver, then it would be a lot easier, but you have to have an account, to find the required files.
Hopefully their support team will get back to you quickly, and you can let us know.

IpVanish got back to me with the following reply.

"Thank you for getting in touch with us.
We understand that you are aiming to configure our service on the Enigma2 satellite receiver box. Unfortunately, this device runs on a customized Linux image and we are not officially supporting it. However, just in case it helps, here is a third-party article we found which seems to be discussing this topic.
Plugin Tutorial - OpenVPN VU+ Enigma2 Quick Setup Guide
In case you have more questions, please let us know. "

I have already followed that link but I couldn't get OpenVpn to start ?
I'll keep trying as maybe I made a mistake or maybe I will get an idea somewhere else ?
Regards.

How accurately did you follow the guide?
It mentions sending the two files to Client.conf, which you might have to set up, and then editing one of the files to add the extra text, in red, and saving it.

It also mentions some code, to send to your receiver, using telnet, which is part of the VUCC, VU+ Control Centre, or you could use a stand alone system, like PuTTY.
You do have to register, on that site, to access the coding.

As far as I can see I followed it to the letter including using Putty to send opkg install openvpn to the receiver but still can't get it to work.
OpenVpn simply won't start on pressing the Green button on the remote.

If you look at the example, in the guide, they appear to have a folder, called ipvanish, with the files inside them.
File structure is essential, for the program to find the files.
It might be best to contact ipvanish and ask them to confirm where the files go, in your openvix version, and if that tutorial is still applicable, in your version of openvix.

If not try cancelling your subscription, because it's unsuitable, for your purpose, then find a VPN that works with an enigma 2 receiver, and has an easy guide, showing you how to load it.

The reply I got from IpVanish was
"We understand that you are aiming to configure our service on the Enigma2 satellite receiver box. Unfortunately, this device runs on a customized Linux image and we are not officially supporting it. "
So I'm not going to get any help there.
I just wanted to see if I could get it going.
If I can't I'm not going to worry as I've plenty of other ways to use the Vpn.
Ipvanish were the same with Android Tv until they brought out an Android app.

I'll keep on trying as someone must have worked it out somewhere ?

You probably need a dedicated Openvix forum, and search for how to install VPN, on openvix 5.4

Thanks for letting us know.

If you have the time you might want to post a new thread, on satellites.co.uk, detailing how you did it, for anyone else who wants to add a VPN, on an enigma 2 receiver.

To be honest I don't really know.
I followed post no 112 here OpenVPN Setup guide for most VPN,s - Page 8
This was my post over at World of Satellite where Andy_Hazza was a fantastic help [SF8008] IpVanish Vpn ?
He stuck with me through the whole process.
I tried numerous other ways of doing it without success before coming on the WOS post.

All this is a big learning curve for me.
Tony.

Put OpenAtv in slot two of the SF8008 last night just to try it out.
It installed fine & the receiver rebooted but it crashed during the setup process when I choose 1080 screen resolution.
Screen just went blank & no remote buttons would work.
Had to switch the receiver off at the back.
When I switched it on again it tried to boot & reached 50 on the receivers screen. Eventually it reached 100 but nothing further.

Eventually I held down the start button on the receiver front while switching it on at the back.
I got a screen which gave me a list of choices.
I picked recovery I think ? & this gave me a list of the two images installed, OpenVix & OpenAtv.
I was too scared at that stage so I choose OpenVix & the receiver rebooted into OpenVix with my original settings.
I rebooted the receiver again just to make sure everything was ok & I left it at that.

I have no idea what happened with OpenAtv & I'm very reluctant to try again in case I make a mess of it.

This was the tutorial I was trying to follow.

I found the receiver didn't show up the Micro SD card I inserted at the back of the receiver even though I followed the tutorial.
Maybe its because I have a Usb key inserted in the rear Usb socket where my picons & backups are stored ?

Tony.
