Good afternoon from a chilly Mullion Cove Cornwall.

Has anyone come across galvanised wall brackets, similar to the type sold by Satellite Super Store.

There brackets are fine, but eventually rust and look a mess as the powder coating fails.

To clean up and repaint is difficult without taking the bracket down, due to the part where it clamps to the mast.

The ones I have were/are sold by the company Hypex, though this must have been a decade ago.

Anodised and have been up on the wall for almost as long upstairs, no corrosion as yet and I doubt they will ever rust away

If you bought new brackets and had them hot powder coated before they get any corrosion on them would that help them survive?

Or put a third bracket bracket up then you can remove one every couple of years when the corrosion starts appearing & redo it without having to dismantle the entire rig.

Thank you all for your advice, the sea is very hard on paint and soon gets to the metal.

The original powder coating on the two main brackets is no too bad, but I modified two other brackets, one as a third support near a window and another to hang a second dish off the main pole.

All the bashing and bending removed a lot of the powder coating, my repaint job on those two did not last long.

I can as suggested remove one of the three brackets at a time to repaint, but the best protection I have found down here is galvanising.

The railings on our balcony have lasted for over 30 years and only now the ones nearest the sea have succumbed to the salt a bit.

If I take them off one at a time to have them galvanised, they will require sand blasting first, which is going to be a lot of up and down to Helston.

I am not sure how sand blasting is with rust, I suppose it depends on how bad it is ?

Will take some pictures tomorrow.

Rust won't be a problem for the sand blaster (or galvanising process), but anywhere paint remains will not get galvanised. You may have trouble finding a galvaniser who'll do one item at a time, also there'll most likely be a minimum order cost.

They look good.

The SSS brackets have four fixing plate on each foot, plus three clamps for the mast.

The ones in this add have only one fixing per foot and one clamp for the mast.

Can I ask what you will be mounting on them dish size ?

Yes, but they have secured the mast into a damp rockery wall, far better to have set the post in concrete.
I'd give it six months before it topples over in a gust and kills the old lady living there.

Hi, A 1.8m PF on a 3" pole. However, it is in quite a sheltered location.

The SSS wall fixings are nice but the cost and coating aren't. I'm using one with 3 feet and two with 2 feet. I've not followed past threads but if CH means it's a mundic wall, all bets are off!

A while back Channel Hopper there was a lot of drilling into house walls locally to test for that. : )

Sea sand was also frequently used to build, they used what ever was available : )

Recently several properties, that have been purchased by wealthy folks from up country as second homes, have been knocked down and rebuilt.

I remember visiting Pat and Dennis who lived in the harbour some years ago, the internal walls had large blisters where the plaster was bulging, they just painted over it : )

When they passed their daughter had it flattered and rebuilt before it fell down, it is now yet another let.

There is a nice large bungalow on the cliff that sold for a million last year, now they have applied for planning to knock it down and build two.

I don't think in this case there is anything wrong with it, Alanna and I once painted the interior for David the owner who was a paraplegic and it had no damp or other problems.

The wall where my mast is was built in the 80s as a pottery and is solid, the rest of the building was built in the 30s but fortunately it is fine.

That is apart from constantly requiring painting.

I think to start with I will remove the top bracket and take the old paint off with a heat gun, to see if the rust is just surface stuff.

We used to have a forge in the village, Peter was a very precise gentleman but has now retired, or I would have had him make some custom brackets and had those galvanised.

A lot of the local shops in the village and other services have gone now replaced by lets for visitors.

I lived in / near Plymouth for three years in the 80s, about half the properties I stayed in looked relatively modern, but had very poor heat retention through the walls so I suspect they were built with reclaimed material.

The thing I always remember Plymouth for, is taking the Morse test for my amateur radio licence G0RIT : )

We were fortunate with this building as we bought it without a survey in 1986, at the time we lived in Manchester I had moved there from London.

Manchester was a nightmare so we were desperate to leave.

The shop below us here is concrete block, the upper two stories our flat is a wood frame with hanging slates and plaster board.

It holds the heat well.

The pottery alongside is all concrete block, hence I use that wall for the mast.

Back to the subject, it is a great shame SSS do not have their brackets galvanised.

I have read in the past that he has said of metal work, it eventually rusts but should still last for years.

Some of us like our installations to be the best possible and rusty parts do not look good at all.

The two modified brackets look worse than they are, when the black paint I used started to show rust, I over painted it a couple of times with roof sealer rust and all.

It did not work : )

@Spiff

Take a look at the "Rustbuster" (" www.rust.co.uk ") website - their products are quite widely used in car restoration and repair, as mentioned in various "classic car" restoration mags. Their products appear to have quite a good reputation, and one may be suitable for what you need.

That sounds more like maximising profit.

Somebody on the forum should be along in a minute with a proposal to construct a copy out of INOX.

Making all items that have to survive the weather of Stainless Steel would be the correct thing to do.

Even helping to save the planet that we constantly hear about.

Poor quality or the wrong materials, chip board for kitchens for instance is such a waste.

The FLACC brackets arrived and look fine for my needs. They are 15" stand-off and the U-bolts are M12 for 76mm poles.

Good evening S Band,

They look great, much better than powder coating which cracks, especially where they tighten up to the wall.
