Apparently all change by Wednesday. A pity as the last few days have been sublime.

I've had time to plant a small batch of herb and chili seeds (various types - later) that have been in storage, they are currently indoors awaiting a time when the weather won't get to them.

I've also acquired a plastic table with plastic legs for the decking area that I'll make slug-proof. Too many strawberries in the past have gone AWOL.

A most disappointing spring up here - its been almost exclusively grey chilly & VERY windy. Loads of our spring plants are really struggling in the conditions, and quite a few of the sunflowers for the King Of The Sunflowers competition have died.

Your experience in SE Scotland would appear to be not too different from the west of Northern Ireland. Looking at the records of a weather station I have in the back garden, it has so far broken the 20 degrees C barrier only twice so far this year, with April & May usually the driest months being wetter than average (May significantly so, nearly double of what is locally expected). Being outdoors this evening meant zipping up a jacket and putting a cap on - definitely not summer-like weather even by local standards!

In saying that, even with some rather tepid conditions the grass is growing as quick as usual, the plants I have in the front garden are blooming fine (not planted by me, they were chosen by a relative - apparently they enjoy wet soil as the gadren slopes down on to the plants so the last few weeks have seen them shoot up out of near nothing!) and the local trees are leafing well. We just need a little bit of heat - not too much though, we're not built for the 31C heat we had last July!

When the sun is out its pleasant if you can get out of the wind, but by 'eck the strong winds are cold from some directions. W can only recall one spring as grey as this, about 5 or 6 years ago, but nothing in comparison to the insessant blustery winds, which have been ongoing for weeks now.

When we first moved to this area 25 years ago we always said May was often the best month - loads of sunshine, normally dry & very pleasant to be outside. Not this year - there were only a handful of days with appreciable amounts of sunshine, but the wind knocked the edge off the temperatures..

Now you've gone and done it, give it seven days.
