Apologies if this question has been asked a million times before.

Iam relocating to Germany, Cologne area to be precise, and wanted to know if it would be fairly straightforward to receive UK channels there,:) BBC etc, with a freesat box bought here, the relevant dish and a UK postcode.

Thank you
Ian

An 80 cm dish will be big enough in Cologne for the time being.

Quite what will happen in the next couple of years once the new satellites start coming on line is anyones guess.

Dear Ian,

no problem to receive the Freesat channels in or near Cologne.
Any non-Freesat receiver will do and a UK postcode is not required unless you want to receive local information automatically.

But if he uses a Freesat Receiver - for the benefit of the 7 day EPG and maybe PVR facilities - he will need to enter a Postcode. Which is a minor issue anyway.

non-Freesat boxes generally only have Now & Next . Even I, the arch luddite, have finally moved on from generic boxes for 28E (Still use them extensively for other Satellites, though)!

The extended EPG is certainly a very good point.

Vu+ EPG is great for 28.2ºE. You can tell it which EPG you want (Freesat or Sky). And it works on lots of other satellites too.

Quite so, hence "generally".

Most of us don't mention such boxes unless the punter indicates it might be worth while- ie Until there is reason to do otherwise, apply the KISS principle!

Yeah same plugin as the VU+, downloads at 4am every morning...which is a bit of a nightmare if you're watching early morning sport!

Especially with Linux boxes - most people find them mindbending!
