If this is the first time one is using an Enigma box, then I think it's a good idea to get the supplier to flash it for you (as I did some years ago) since that's one less thing (of the many required with an Enigma box!) to have to get involved in as you install it.

For a quid? Definitely!

It's good to learn how to install images on the various slots available. Very simple process. But yes maybe for a quid it might be worth it if it's your first time

I will not go for E2 box unless you are familiar with it.

I would suggest to learn about an image in particular before you get the box, if not you will be lost

E2 boxes are very difficult and challenging for newbies to that type of receiver - I know, having learnt the "hard way" (the "very hard way" in my case, and that's why I haven't got one nowadays!)

Hello Thanks for your advice but the Octagon arrived yesterday and from the point I tried to set up, I really made a huge mistake not to flash the image.
Therefore, I kindly ask some guidance on my new journey. Could you give some tips how can start? For example, I cannot set up for my motor dish as I couldn't find DiSEqC 1.2 nor USUas for my motor to move. Thanks

As I said, I haven't got any E2 receivers nowadays and haven't had one for years, and so I can't help - hopefully others can?

And that's only the beginning of a long saga of learning how to drive an E2 receiver!

Can you please tell us what image is on you receiver?
Is it openVix?
Can you also post your dish setup, single dish, multiple LNB's, multiple dishes, Motorized dish, or other configuration?

OTOH, remember that under English law (the Consumer Rights Act 2015) you have 14 days to return anything bought online without having to give any reason as to why you are returning it - therefore, if after a few days, you decide you don't want to keep that receiver then return it for a refund!

Setting up an Enigma 2 receiver isn't that difficult, except for the first time.

My main advice is to make a note, of everything you are doing, and set up a word document, detailing how you have set everything up, for future reference. You will soon discover that you have a lot more options, than a basic plug, and play, receiver, and you will forget some things, when you need to flash a new, updated, version, of OpenVix, or try a new image.

You can backup certain things, like your channel list, and bouquets, (Favourites), using tools like dreamboxedit.

Other Enigma 2 owners will guide you, through the process, and there are online guides, and videos.

Whilst I "Liked" Mickha's post above because that's what you'd have to do with that receiver, I'd still question as to whether you are prepared to put in all the time and effort required to achieve it.

My first step is how can I download the image to the new receiver. Go online or Linux webpage with stick do it , put it on the receiver and update the system?
This what I have have:
HD Line DisceqC Motor 50-120 ( apparently a Moteck SG2100A clone)
Dish : Dur- Line Aluminium 75/80cm
LNB : Dur - Line
All single ones.
Last ,I took way the old receiver and put the Octagon yesterday and probably didn't the right thing to try to set.... maybe I have to start all over again....
Hopefully, is sufficient information . Anything else please let me know. Many thanks.:Y

As new it should have come with OpenATV and Define images preinstalled, any other image would still need to be set up in a similar fashion. Hopefully someone can tell you how to boot into the Define image which is much less complex.

You can update it via the menu options, software update, but you don't need to re-flash an image, unless there are major improvements, a bit like moving up from Windows 10 to 11, only the updated images are free, provided by fellow enthusiasts, but your receiver will continue to work with even older images.

In the menu options you will find audio options, the default should be set to English, but you can have 1 as English, 2 as Undetermined, and 3 as Original, or other language options, there are also display options, and plugins, like Kodi, that can be added.

If you only have a motorized dish you don't need to use the advanced setup option, just go into menu, Setup, Tuners & scanning, Tuner Setup, select the Tuner, Configuration Mode Simple, Mode to Positioner, and enter your Longitude, and Latitude, remember negative Longitude readings = West, positive = East, so -3.xxx = 3.xxx West.

How can I put in : my longitude is -0260243 and my latitude is 50.837924 and in the set up they put to start only 0 or 3 not 5 ? The only option below is North or South for latitude.IMG_20230702_200133308.jpg

What is your general location?
If your longitude begins with a 0 it's more likely that the longitude is -0.260243, which goes in as 0.26 West, Latitude looks correct.
Please double check your correct Longitude, and Latitude, you can use various Apps, or your computer, with sites like dishpointer.com, where you can zoom in on a map, move the icon to where your dish is located, and get an accurate Latitude and Longitude reading.
