Hoping that I’ve posted to the correct forum.

My very elderly neighbour who is Spanish has lost her Spanish TV and is a little bit upset as it’s her link to the world. I tried to help out but I’ve not been able to find any Spanish channels (I’ve found lots of Arabic, Lebanese, German, Italian etc.).

Her previous box was - Sat Iris 9500 HD (believe that this broken as “8” was displayed permanently on the display and I couldn’t make any changes despite switching off at mains). I’m not sure what satellite she was connected to.

I bought - Vmade DVB-S2 and reconnected all cables as previously.

When I searched on Astra 19.2E, Hot Bird 13E and Hipastat 30W I didn’t find any Spanish channels.

I’m guessing that perhaps I need to move her satellite dish. If so, can someone advise where to point it and how to work out the right angle (perhaps there is an app?).

Many thanks.

All three satellites you have mentioned have Spanish channels on them, but you might have to put in a network or blind scan to catch all frequencies available.

Thanks. Does such an option exist on the box that I have bought ?

You mean ask this question on a Spanish forum ? My lack of Spanish and her 90 year old eyes won’t allow us to do this ;)

Do you know what channels she used to get on the old receiver - that might help to identify the satellite at which her dish is pointed?

OTOH, many of the Spanish channels are broadcast from a number of satellites - I would suspect that that the dish is probably pointed at 13E or 19E.

OTOH2, you also ought to check that the dish, LNB and cables (and especially the LNB and the cable connections to it!) are still "OK" as no signal from those sats, and 30W, would tend to indicate to me that there is a fault in one of those system components because that means you will get no channels at all on any sat!

Iris 9500 HD is used for piracy, perhaps she was watching Spanish Movistar Plus on Astra 19.2° East for free.
With Vmade DVB-S2 she can only watch FTA channels: TVEi and Canal 24 Horas on Hot Bird 13° East; and 4 regional channels, Canal Sur Andalucia, Extremadura Sat, Aragon TV Int and TVGA on Astra 19.2° East.

It is more than likely as Lumpen has said, I would recommend she buys a subscription service to view her favourite Spanish channels, we do not condone pirate setups as you are more than likely supporting organised crime.

Thank you for all your replies.

Not sure how I’m supporting crime via piracy. I bought a decoder via Amazon Prime so that I could try get the Spanish channels up and running ASAP. It was the quickest decider I could find. And I simply connected to her old set up. Please advise what I did wrong? Or better still please let me know how I should go about getting her a bona fide service - what decoder should I buy ?

TVE Int and Canal 24 will only be on Hotbird 13E,unless they decide to leave the SD signal on 19E...
4 regional channels,Andalucia,Galicia,Estremadura and Aragon are on 19E
30W is useless as it' s mainly encrypted stuff,or religious propaganda, of the same channels as 13E & 19E
You can easily get an "Astra & hotbird LNB called "monobloc" for 10-15 Brexit £
and point to astra(as pos1) and Hotbird(pos2) or reverse according to the LNB you buy

Ok I will spell it out for you as you seem unable to join the dots, programme/channel piracy is illegal, so firstly you are committing a crime yourself by buying and using equipment allowing you to steal from programme providers, secondly most sellers of illegal satellite pirate equipment are stealing from programme providers for financial gain, the money from which could be going to more serious criminal activities, for example drugs production/trafficking, prostitution, people trafficking, the same equally applies to IPTV pirate equipment, you simply have no idea what the repercussions could be buying a 'hookie' piece of equipment from Fleebay or Jungle Jims.

These channels are FTA, but their transponders on Hispasat have PLS codes, you need a multistream receiver.

No I do not, the spanish channels are not my cup of tea.
I have a dish pointed to 30°W because I am interested in watching the slovak channels Bratislava, Severka, Vega, TV7, Hronka...

all on 19 E until now
Then ,also on astra 1,you get Cuba and Venezuela .And Cuba has good music
Tvei and canal 24 already are duplicated on Hotbird, soon in HD
.the others are not really interesting..(the 30W ones)

Just to point out, after 15th January the HD versions of TVE Internacional and 24H on 13ºE will be the only versions. The SD versions on 19.2ºE will close at this point. The new contract for TVE carriage starts then - they were always meant to go HD only on that date, but there has been a one month overlap as they are changing orbital position.

For the free to air Spanish channels, the best set-up will become a dish with a monoblock LNB for both 13ºE and 19.2ºE at this stage in my opinion. You'll only ever get a handful of channels this way though.

A toroidal design, or steerable will add the Hispasat channels for not much outlay. The provider is currently running some 4k tests on top of some minority channels you can't receive elsewhere for free.

A bit of an odd satellite to have the Pantelio group on though.

Yes, the famous linuxsat installer Mister Abert is providing the best direct to home experience with a toroidal T90 dish in London.

@krys_k1

Repeating my question from early on: have you asked her what channels she used to get/watch on the old receiver?

That might clarify which channels on which satellites need to be received with a new receiver - and whether or not you might be "getting yourself" into "dangerous" areas w.r.t, the "legality" if a genuine subscription is needed to do that.
