Think twice before 500hd

All forums are talking about the green light in dream 500hd and units going dead. Before buying do your homework before you bite ur nails. Especially people who dont have authorized dream dealers. seems dream is runing this issue like toyota. so buyer beware.

I don't think anyone ever died from owning a Dreambox, a little different from Toyota.

Also from what I have read DMM have been very accommodating in replacing faulty units and getting replacements out to customers very quickly.

I would just like to say that people rarely report good experience while they are quite quick to slag off when they have a bad experience.
I would recommend the DM500HD as the best price/performance box ever produced by DMM and possibly the best box ever by DMM.
'All forums' talking about the green light going off: I have only seen it on this forum, so be a lot more specific. It also doesn't help when it is the same person posting on all forums about the same problem.

Finally Dream Multimedia have always provided excellent service to me, so if the box fails, contact them and get a replacement - they will do it quite quickly from my expereince with a failed DM7025 that was even out of its guarantee period.

I have read about the green problem in multiple forums which I wont list here. Also, its good for people to know before they spend $500 that there is a high chance that they might get a faulty unit. And yes the problem is wide spread. This doesnt apply to you shumifman but applies to people who buy from other countries and would be hard for them to return the faulty box.

I agree with you that where you are from you may have problems, I am also aware that in some countries you can not even buy an original and only clones which will also be a problem.

As for unofficial firmware I would ask what is unofficial ?

Dream elite which uses only original cvs but adds some nice features, at the end of the day it is running original firmware.

Sonic, hope all the talk about the green issue is not true. I have been using a dreambox for the last couple of years and never had a problem. But when you start reading stuff here and there, you get confused. My intention was just to raise the question about this issue. This forum has helped me a lot, and people like you and shumifan and others who contribute to help other members solve their problems make a big impact on others. In no way I was trying to flame dreamboxes, but for us who refuse to buy clones and support dreamboxes we expect the same from dream. Even in some places dreamboxes get confiscated at customs. Its also good to know if the units are locking up due to faulty units or lack of knowledge on the part of people trying to install the images. Thanks a lot

dm 500hd is the best receiver i seen in the market Amazing receiver and awsome picture i had cube revo 9000hd eagle technomate and dm 800hd but i feel 500hd is the best receiver sofar

DM 500HD rocks! Just got it today and what an amazing picture specially the HD channels just wow!
