I really do suggest you fully upgrade your M4 before you go any further. Then you can fully exploit any of the features that were introduced at a later date.

Are you on a marginal footprint for 28.2e. There has been a lot of changes over the last number of weeks. That why I scan 28.2e regularly. Which Italian streams are you referring to.
trying to do it... but struggling. The folder appears as a "media player" folder. When I unzipped it, the "media player" system of my Windows 8 unzipped it. Have I done anything wrong?

The 5w italian streams!
I get some of them ,strong signal. But the transponder list has mistakes and it seems i can' t put in all transponders. Equally for the French ones, I get 15 odd channels & about 10 are missing despite my introducing the missing transponders, using Kingofsat
Make a list of what is missing and I will supply you with a list of settings. That’s why it’s important that you upgrade to the latest firmware.

You need to download the zip file, extract it first and put the .bin file in the root of your USB stick. Once that’s done plug it into your M4 USB port and select the .bin file and the update will start.

28E,yes marginal. But until las t year we had "seasons":HD from Sept to April,SD afetr this ,for bbc channels.
The rest up and down, but we mostly watch BBCchannels.
I had HD last weekend,just for 3 days;then it melted down...until today.

When I plug the USB in,the receiver just says "USB in".What am I supposed to do next? there s no "list" or whatever....

What should I do with them?
A great thank you to Satspot, your help is precious. Have a good night!

You’re welcome.

Ignore them. They are created by the M4 for channel recording. As soon as you plug in a USB device they are automatically created.

In relation to the French and Italian channels you appear to be missing you need to get the PLS settings correct just once, rescan and the missing channels will appear. Just let me know what transponders are not tuning and I will give you the correct settings.

Again being on the fringe of 28.2e coupled with all the recent changes and now with the change in programming owing to the death of QE2 I imagine everything will be in turmoil for a while.

What I can supply you with is all the channel configuration from 46e to 45w via a channel configuration file which you could restore easily to your M4 assuming your system is motorised if you needed it.

All my respects to QE2 . RIP
I understand the BBC will be in mourning mode for a while.
Good morning!
I uploaded the update yesterday late;after it was over I turned off the receiver, went tobed
Turned it on this morning,as I thought I d do the reset.
And it set itself on "boot" 20 minutes ago. Still booting now. Shall I wait?

Was there a reason why you reset it.

If the M4 is still reporting boot I’d switch it off and remove the power for a few minutes and reconnect the power and switch back on again. Let me know what happens.

The only thing you need to keep connected to the M4 is the internet to keep the 7 day EPG operational. As I said as soon as you upgrade to the latest firmware any additional features added after you purchased would become available.

I assume your Italian and French channels are now appearing. If you find some of the transponders are not tuning you will need to manually adjust the PLS setting. Quite easy and a one time operation.

Ensure you backup your M4 once you have tuned it fully. Saves a lot of time and trouble later.

Backup? do you mean saving my lists onto its memory?
My internet modem is 6 metres away, should I use a cable or can I rely on wifi? I have fibre
and I m using it on the tv(via ethernet cable) for the Arte replay, which works really well.

For backup, with a USB stick inserted press the USB key on your remote. Press the Yellow button on the remote called Upload to USB. Select Upload Channel List to USB and you have your settings stored on the USB stick if you ever loose them or do a Factory Reset again.

If a WiFi dongle works on your M4 no need to drag a LAN cable over to connect up. Try YouTube on the M4 and see what quality connection you have on WiFi.

Once my back up is finished, will it be wiser to leave the receiver under tension (it displays time) or may i switch it off(as most people do now to save electricity)? Is there an advantage leaving it under tension?

Something like that USB WiFi Dongle for Technomate Receivers - Next Day Delivery

I certainly don’t leave my M4 running 24/7. Just power it off when not in use.

For any of the missing Italian and French channels on 5w you’ll get the correct PLS settings here Eutelsat 5 West B at 5.0°W - LyngSat
