Your first bike, what was it please?

My first bike was an old Vespa, the type with bicycle handlebars, but never actually got it on the road. There was then a small gap to my Honda CB92, bought in 1969, jazzed it up a bit with a racing saddle and Goldie silencers, sounded a lot bigger than 125cc.

1997 Cagiva Elefant E750. http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/cagiva/cagiva_elefant 750c 94.htm . Built like a tank and a little on the tall side for short-arse here but I rode it for about 9 years until it suffered a major engine failure last year (flywheel broke in half, thus damaging the crankshaft). Fixing it would take more money and effort than the bike is worth

Lambretta Li150 was my 1st powered 2 wheel

I wasn't into motor bikes but my brother had a lovely AJ Ariel gold with cow horn handle bars; it sounded lovely. Myself, I had a lambereta bored out to 225 with a 50m amile carb. You couldn't pull off in first as it would just flip you over.

I was to start with but moved over to Motorbikes after 3 years this was my 1st BSA 125 Batam



This was the last that I rode about 30 years ago BSA 650 Road Rocket



I had a Yamaha RD250 in between these 2 but missed the oil leaks

Of course many are interested. Perhaps you know of my dad. Dink Philpottts, also known as Dinky. Rode speedway for Southampton and Poole, also a grasstrack racer, died 1989, still holds the track record at Farley Castle, which will never be broken as they dont race there anymore

This is my first ever bike, a 1942 BSA M20 ex, British army. The bike was a complete pile of junk, had Matchless telescopic forks (they did not work at all), a funny chrome rear carrier bolted on to the rear with some jubilee clips. Had lots of non standard parts on it, it was simply a bitsa. Blew the engine on it, so this was the first time I took an engine apart and back together.

I cannot say I did, although we all enjoyed Northern Soul, one of our crowd Bob Elliot still organises Northern Soul events in this area four decades later

I used to help lew's brother Tom (on his farm) met the rest of the family many times.

Lew passed away this feb. he was 93.

Wow was it really that long ago ! I have still got boxes of northern soul records; one comes to mind Love on a Mountain Top.
