A thought on re-using old analogue boxes...

Very. Add the analogue box into the rf chain, just like an old video recorder and connect your scart sources to the a/v and decoder sockets. To view the a/v source, turn the box on and turn the source on and select the rf channel on your telly and it should be there. Might have to press an a/v...

Are these cheap 1m ebay dishes actually any good?

For me, football is a pub sport :) I'm surprised that there are so many english language channels on 4.8. I just seen the footprint of that satellite, i think for me to get anything on that would be really lucky, like you said i couldn't be in a worse location for that. Turksat looks promising!

splitting signal to analogue and digital

A smart priority switch such as the global sps1 would be ideal if you could get hold of one, it's what i currently use to split the feed between an analogue and digital receiver. It shares the feed between two receivers giving full band coverage to one and when that;s switched off, it gives full...

Are these cheap 1m ebay dishes actually any good?

Well, with the weather i'v been out in the last few weeks i'd be pretty happy with just wet feet! Oh i see, no i must be a rare newby not to be asking about free football :) FTA music channels would be the most interesting for me if anything, i'v seen quite a few on Turksat (42e iirc) so that's...

I got one of those kits from homebase, £25. I also got one from Aldi at £40 for my dad. The dishes are ok for the price, but the receivers can crash while scanning transponders and can perform factory resets whenever they feel like it.

Are these cheap 1m ebay dishes actually any good?

It's good to know that the dish is pretty good but i'm not sure where the idea came from that i was looking for the Viasat nordic beam! I'm just interested in playing around really, but i'l know now not to even bother trying for that one, a 1.8m is just a little too large, a 1.1m is scaring me...

    Problem with "Anytime"

I had a problem with anytime that stopped working for a few weeks after it was unplugged from the router, then one day it just...came back

    My great little setup!

That's a nice dish setup. If i wasn't on the ground floor i'd go for something like that. I also have a mini dish living in ivy, but i'm trying to use the ivy to hide mine, but it just won't take!

Are these cheap 1m ebay dishes actually any good?

Yes i think you're right(!) I marked out the sizes for a 1m and 1.1m on the wall and they are huge. I'd be quite happy with a s/h 80 or 90 but havn't come accross any locally in the months i'v been looking and if i have to buy new, i might as well go for the largest, within reason.

    My cheap and cheerfull install!

Thanks Vipersan, I was going to ditch the SPS1 after i'v changed the LNB for a quad but now thinking about it, it's quite a retro thing and it shall be staying :) Afterall, i can only watch one box at a time and it compliments the old analogue box very nicely. And when they retire analogue, it...

Are these cheap 1m ebay dishes actually any good?

Ah, i seen the 110cm Triax with a motor and LNB for a pretty reasonable price. It would be nice to see a few in real life first, to get an idea of the sizes though. Hmmm...decisions.

A thought on re-using old analogue boxes...

My old Grundig will continue life as an RF modulator, one soure via the decoder socket and another through the vcr socket :)
