Has anyone noticed a slight fall off of signal levels from the 0.8W slot in the past few days ?

A customer with a 1m offset has been getting breakup of the Danish channels (Canal Digital subscription pack ) near here since Wednesday, I was wondering if the broadcaster might be up to something before Christmas, there is nothing in the usual reports to suggest any bouquet changes have been made, or are planned.

My first thought was that 1w is only a drop or power so I wondered where the post was going! Maybe drop-off in power better describes it?

Sorry...

Turns out it was a change in LNB skew (noticable in the main at the 10747 MHz frequency, where there are two transponders on opposite polarities), so NRK on vertical comes in strong owing to the footprint above London, but the TV2 HD (Zebra etc.) on horizontal is completely lost in the noise of the opposite .

Other frequencies specifically for Denmark on the same polarity suffered with breakup when the cloud cover is above 5/8, nowhere near as much as the one mentioned, but break up in this area is unacceptable on a 1m dish.

Thor 6 at 0.8°W - LyngSat Maps

The reason for the shift in skew turns out to be a squirrel shoving its nuts (oooer missus) into the cavity (ooooer missus)) at the front of the Triax boom arm, dislodging the LNB in the process by about 5 degrees from true centre.

A service call to ensure the dish alignment is OK, plus twisting the LNB to the correct skew settings and some putty in the holes (one up front and the two at the rear where the wingnut goes - ooooer) has fixed it for now. Not sure how to get the rodent to understand not to do it again though, except by extreme measures.

I love the extreme measures, except around here I'm going to have to wait till the squirrel population goes back up, nothing left right now to shoot at.

Make sure the putty you used is not on the favorites menu for the squirrels, some tend to like some of the stuff out there, I use electricians putty (
Duct Seal Compound) they do not like the taste of that stuff.

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
We've got squirrels (even an all-black one) here too - seems like I might need to do some "stuffing" like that!

Given the diseases and/or viruses that the Greys in this country are reputed to carry, I'd want them sterilized and heavily irradiated before I'd ever consider eating one:rolleyes:

With a small dish, that will mostly happen in those circumstances.
