Anyone else succes in receiving these circular signals further west?
What's the easiest frequency to lock?
I see Express AMU1 is at 36.1°E and Eutelsat 36B at 35.9°C.
Since I have received nothing from AMU1 yet I have to focus my 1.8m dish at Eutelsat 36B, but I guess I have to turn it a little bit to the east to receive AMU1.
I use a circular LNB.

@nelson_b received a few Russian transponders in the past on his 1.8m and 2.4m - in North West UK.

Can you see any signal from the Russian beam at your location? I suspect some South African transponders, which share frequencies, might be more of an issue there.

The last time i looked here was in March this year ... - 12149 L 27500 was the only t.p. possible for me .... post 18 Advice Needed - KU BAND CIRCULAR

In light of changes since then - ... i will dig out my circular c.m feed / l.n.b. at the weekend, and if the weather allows it, see if things are better here now.

The reason I ask it again because I saw another circulair LNB:

I don't mind paying another €9 just to try, but I was hoping for some advice.
Maybe 56E is easier to receive, but I have no line of sight beyond 39E.

Last time I tried to get the Russian stuff from 36.0E I was just under a lock for one of the Tricolor frequencies (12149 L)
At the time it needed 7.9dB to lock and I think I was about 7.5dB. One of the Tricolor frequencies (12149 L) is not a shared frequency with another footprint beam hence it is more "friendly" to lock.

However, since then the signal might have been boosted so it may possibly be receivable?
I need to strap on the SMW Ku-Band polariser for the circular polarity frequencies as I have no chance with a plain feed.

Some of the DSTV frequencies are lockable here in the UK, one of them is very strong and I also locked a couple of others just above the threshold from the Sub Saharan beam.
There are a few pictures and details of the DSTV stuff in my replies numbered 150 and 151 of this topic.

I have had no signal (on my receiver) from any Russian frequency. Also tried the ones that are not used on the Sub Saharan Beam.
F.e. 12174 L and according to Lyngsat it should have a C/N lock of 5.5 and 12456 L, which even has a C/N lock of 4.0.

I did receive some of the DSTV frequencies, I believe 12245 H is almost always receivable (depending on the weather).

I hoped to have some advantage for the Russian transponders with that circular LNB. Not yet.

Are you able to see how far below lock you are? I've been able to get around 3.2dB with a modified feedhorn on my 1.8m here - far below what's required for a lock though.

I will see if I get time later today or tomorrow to fit the Ku polariser onto the dish and check the levels again.

Had an hour to spare this afternoon ... so setup the dish for circular signals ... and although cloudy here it not thick cloud ...
12149 L 27500 is still the only transponder that locks for me on 2.4 c.m. here ...... but at 9.1 db that,s a full 1.0db more than i was getting back in the early spring... its still taking over 7.9db to lock properly though !

I'm back

Still not enough signal level to lock 12149 L here in Surrey, UK.
At the moment the Dr HD F15 signal level indicator is between 7.0dB and 7.2dB which is 0.7dB less than the theoretical lock level.
It might pick up a little in the evening and if the low grey cloud clears?

I tried the SMW polariser in two different orientations with respect to the LNB probes.
With the plate of the polariser bisecting the 90 degree angle of the LNB probes the polarities register correctly.
With the plate of the polariser rotated 90 degrees from the bisection orientation the polarities are reversed and incorrect, signal level approxinately the same on both orientations.

Hi - I also tried those transponders last week ... but they showed zero signal here on the 2.4 dish

Apart from the one i locked (12149 L 27500) ...... the next best result was 11881 L 27500 at around 3.0 db which is well under what is needed for it to lock.

Waiting for better weather to test them both and do measurements with a decent signal meter.
