After some advice (thanks CJ), perserverance and swearing I've managed to scan 70.5E. I'm listening to CBCRAD at the moment, although strangely it seems to be playing two different songs at the same time.... Either that or it's one bloody awful one.

What did the trick was manually editing satellites.xml and positioning the satellite at 69.4E - clearly something in my setup is off and requires correcting for this satellite (although strangely 68.5E works fine). I figured out that something like this needed doing by going into the "positioner setup" - goto X was giving me nothing but blipping "fine movement west" 8 times was giving me a bit of a signal. The pole is near as dammit plumb, I'm using USALS and my co-ordinates are correct. I'd think that maybe the motor was sagging a bit, but then I suppose I'd need to key in a position further to the east, not further to the west. If there is a more intelligent way of correcting the dish position (Openvix, solo2) I'm all, er, ears.

Gibi 1m XP, Inverto Ultra Single. 5dB.

I *think* my limit in that direction is 76.5E (azimuth 104.6, probably just outside the max of 180-75 = 105) which would be at 5° elevation and looking at the footprints I don't think they go anywhere near me. Nescafé? Am drinking something much colder (and Germaner :) ).

Edit: I just tried the same trick with 74.0E, but no dice. Probably the trees at the end of the field which unfortunately appear to be in rude health....

CBCRAD appears to be transmitting in French and English at the same time. Understandable given the origin but technically *why*? :)

Maybe left channel is transmitting one language and right another?

heh - well spotted. I've just checked by fiddling with the balance and you're right. I'd have never worked that out :) Still, it isn't as if they are short of space on the transponder...

Edit: interestingly there is also ENGRAD and FRRAD, but only CBCRAD is in the clear.

No, no. You're thinking about conversation with one's other half.

I've checked again and it appears I have the dish pointing off to the east a little: I've checked with 7E (which is near enough due south for me) and I'm 4 steps (fine movement) off maximum. Possibly at the far ends of the motor's movement this is amplified to a much bigger error (70.5E was 8 steps out for me) - in any case I've checked with 68.5E as well and I can see that this isn't quite right, either. I'll try and give the dish a nudge tomorrow :)
