Hi,

I am going to attempt to install a 1m dish here in Cyprus. I have read the idiot guides, and seem to be hmmm confident in attempting this. I want to receive both 13.0°E (Hot Bird 7A/8) and 7.0°W (Nilesat 101/102).

Is this possible by using a monobloc lnb to receive both? Should I buy a second dish? Or should I buy an "extender"? Not sure if the terminology I used is correct.

Any help greatly appreciated!

A monobloc wont be any good to you - they only have a 6 degree seperation between the heads .

You would probably best with a second dish and a 2 or 4 way diseqc switch

Hi,

The two satellites being 20 degrees apart, and neither of them being particularly strong in your location ( but not weak) you may struggle to get them both on one dish (with suitable offset arms/brackets). But if you have time and don't mind fiddling around for a bit, then give it a go.

A simple alternative as AS suggests is a couple of dishes instead. Or you could install a motor and get lots of other sats too.

Thanks for the help,

I guessed that a monobloc would have a limited range between two satellites.

Here in Israel I have seen lately a lot of installations for Hot Bird 13E and Amos 5W and Nilesat 7W on one Prime Focus dish but with separate LNBs, so I guess 13E and 7W can also be done in Cyprus.
Can't give you the precise way that they do it, but you can save a second dish this way.

Triax multi-lnb bracket you can cover 20-degree span but is suitable for triax dishes only. I'm in central europe and have around 90% signal quality from 13E and 28E satellites on a 78cm dish - both LNBs are quite off-center (on different sides). It's a bit tricky to lock onto the first sat but then it's then fairly simple to slide the LNB holder for the second one bit-by-bit until you get it. Fine adjustment to the elevation amd bracket tilt later on will get you better signal quality ratio (i.e. instead sat1@60% and sat2@100% get to sat1@88% and sat2@92%)

The Triax bracket sounds ideal and covers the 20 degree span I was after, however no triax dish :!

I personally have taken Analoguesat`s advice and are planning on having two dishes and using a diseqc switch. So far one dish up and one to go!

To summarize for anyone searching the forum for advice:

* a monobloc only covers a 6 degree span;
* a Triax bracket covers a 20 degree on a Triax 78cm dish;
* [not sure if other generic brands brackets(extenders) and dishes cover such a wide span on a similar sized dish]

About how many LNB's would it be possible to fit on a Triax 78 cm dish?

Six at the most, if you are lucky, I have fitted three on one side (TD88), and one on the other, so six would fit (depending on which sats you wanted of course), whether you'd pick anything up on the outer ones is a different matter.
