Hey all,
First thread,

A Multi-receiver setup is the plan but I don't quite know if I heading the right way with this.

Background,
3 storey terraced house , from the top; 2 rooms loft, 2 rooms mid, 2 rooms bottom.
Rear chimney stack appears to have a clear view of 28 east and west for dvb-t with the added bonus you can't see it from the road.

Property is rented so unless the landlord see's value in what's intended my hands are tied :(

Current setup is a old bskyb mini dish (single LNB, digi) on the face of the house and a UHF facing NE. The UHF feeds a small splitter/amp hidden under a floorboard with cables fed to most of the rooms and no wallplates :/ (why why why they are cheap). All well past the sell by date and needing to be replaced.

The goal,
DVB-T, DAB, DVB-S/2 (28.2E astra2 and 28.5E EB1) to every room with the 2 downstairs rooms getting 2 sat feeds for pvr's. 2x Cat5e to every room.

So the plan thus far,
Rooms,
triax faceplates, quad with return and bt along with 2x cat5e for the two downstairs rooms. Euro modules tri and 2x cat5e for the rest of the roooms

With the dish & aerial mounted to the rear stack it leaves me with about 10/15m of cable run before I can connect it to a multiswitch (being very generous with those numbers as I cant reach to measure :p),
The intent being to mount the switch in a cab on the middle floor in a windowless room/cupboard known as the home office.
(Sadly due to a few reasons this is about the best I can do, PE earth distance, power, ease of cabling)

The questions,
Can I get 28.2E astra2 and 28.5E EB1 off the same quatro or will I need 2 ? - you can use one, thanks for that robbo

what's the best way to ensure that the system is fully earthed to stop anything coming to haunt me after I leave this property.
(note, I intend to get a sparky in to fit the earth to the room.)

Will ct100 class cable be ok from the switch to the rooms?
Can anyone recommend 4 core and 2 core cables from the roof the switch? (I would like not to use 6 individual cables)
- looks like the triax 5 core tx100 is the cable for the job and wf100 inside. - thanks for that robbo

Is 10/15m from dish to switch a tad too long?

I would like for the system to be bskyb compatible, I'm not a subscriber but it would be nice if it supported the digieyes and box's. I know that limits me to a few brands, triax being one, any others?

It would be nice to also feed a second/(third if you count the sky return) UHF source into the system for future CCTV/rf out's

Anyone know of any issues running multiplexed cables with cat5e in the same trunk ? If I understand the regs correctly even with a POE system installed its still legally OK but I'm concerned about quality.

Installation practice question, is it worth putting the dish and aerials on different masts or put them all on the same one ?

Anyone able to recommend brands and suppliers for the above kit?

Don't think I have forgotten anything, input anyone ?

EDITED: cleared up what sat's I'm after.

28.2 and 28.5 east are effectilvely co-located on a small dish, so yes only one LNB is needed.

wf100 is better than ct100 as it is foam cored and less likely to be kinked.

Triax and Webro both do multicore coax cables, five core plus earth I believe. Why do you need six? as DAB-FM and UHF can be combined.

Sorry need to clear that up 28.2 astra2 and 28.5 EB1. Not a lot on EB2 :) only after free2air English :)
wf100 it is then, the triax 5 core seems like the cable for the job. (wonder what you would earth :/, the dish ?)

presumed the need for two cables on the dab/free view side due to most multi switches I have come across seem to have an input for each. What would be needed head end to combine them ?

Ahh, the ones I have used had just one terriestrial input, so would need a DAB-FM-UHF combiner to get them all in.

Will have to keep that in mind.
Questions have been updated in the top post.

img 29 is the intended install location, 3rd floor stack around 9/10m in height.

img 30 is the same stack and a shot of another houses dish (yes that grey blur on their stack next to the roof slope)

Dishpointer stats.
Latitude: 52.6064°
Longitude: -1.1451°

Name: 28.2E Astra 2A, 2B, 2D
Distance: 39165km

Motor Latitude: 52.6°
Declination Angle: 7.5°
Dish Elevation: °
Elevation: 24.0°
Azimuth (true): 144.7°
Azimuth (magn.): 147.1°
LNB Skew: -13.0°

Anyone think I will run into problems mounting there?

Not a good idea to keep editing your posts, because when you add new info it won't be noticed by many, it saves the artificial bump, which will get deleted!

The site looks Ok to me, hopefully one of the aerial guys will have some useful tips. All I would say is that the existing TV pole has the brackets too close together. 1/6 ratio is what you should be aiming for I believe.

Also, the dish doesn't have to go up there, does it? You could put it on the end wall.

will do.

the existing mast on the stack is next doors and i don't intend to play with it :)

sadly its the only location on the back of the house with a view of 28e, i don't want to place it on the front of the house as the existing dish looks horrible there and it would mean removing expensive rendering to mount it correctly. so yes it is going to be a fun installation.

sorry for the punctuation on this post the machine i'm on has no shift/capslock.

Long time no updates,

Alas the cable is in (the section of the project I banked on taking the most time) Tx100 x1 and cat5e x2 to each room upstairs, cable points downstairs are just awaiting faceplates.

Cable runs to node zero all in, slight change of plan there, it was going to be a half rack in the home office untill it came to light that all the walls were plaster board and I could not have done it within the regs :( So its been moved into the newly firecoursed cupboard under the stairs.

Sadly that whre the good news stops, Currently have a new lnb on the old dish on the face of the building and using the exsiting cable to watch sat at the moment.

Having a few, "diffrences of opinion" on location of the new dish, Wanting the mast mount it on the back of the house to allow us to use a huge dish (obscured from view of the street) sadly the draw back of this is we only have a clear shot at 23e-35E so a tad limited on sats but would. Landlord belives that a mast on the back of the house would be over kill and wants us to use a 60cm dish on the exsiting D bracket and run the cables down the face of the house under the nice rendering....

Nice idea but limtes us on dish size and have been quoted over £500 to channel out some of the render and redo it....

Oh well, will keep people updated.
