8psk is killing my hobby..

Many changes to the channel line up on 55W in the last few days ..
Many channels have vanidhed ..and a few new ones appeared..
Sadly some have upgraded to 8psk ..along with new channels ..effectively decimating my reception ..and ability to DX on this bird.
I guess its even more important that I somehow increase the dish size now...
Time to think hard how that this might be achieved effectively..
..the experiments with extending Christinas petals will continue....as I cant find the originals designed for the alcoa anywhere ..
Too old and very rare I suspect.
The only ones I ever saw where mounted on a dish in the snow on a photograph taken somewhere in Canada.

As you use it for cband couldn't you construct something large and get suitable mesh and build a larger reflector ?

Hi Wod ..not too good atm ..health wise ..
Hospital scans and checkup again tomorrow ..
but I'm used to the inconvenience after 2 years..

As to the dish ..I see no point in starting again with a bigger dish ..
The next size up wouldn't fit in my back yard ...and I do love my Alcoa ...she outperforms for the most part ..hence the experiments to increase her diameter ..
Bolt on petal extensions existed once upon a time ...but the dish I believe was made in late 70's or early eighties...
So I have a working antique ...and is of better construction than most modern dishes.
..and is designed to be expanded ..
Its just the doing of it

How would that compensate a smaller dish?

Yeah, 8PSK is indeed a killer for fringe reception. Like Viasat/Astra 4a in the UK - all QPSK/SD channels come in without issues on my Uno/85cm dish but would need a larger one to get some of HD/8PSK ones... 'tis the way forward I think.

I Wonder what it would cost to have the extension panels shipped from Austria ..
Probably too expensive to be practical ..
But one extension panel would be enough to use as a mould for fibre glass ..
Now ..there's a thought ..

If you take a look at my System details to the left of this message ..
You'll see I already have one ..and I can thoroughly recommend it .
A very useful tool for my hobby..
..but as CJ says ...only an increase in dish size will help with the fringe 8psk signals..

Most birds only carry a few channels ...receiveable in the UK ..
Some have many ..
On my 1.8 ...55W and 58W are a couple of my favourites ..
also 5W and 40 W are very prolific ....and 20 East is now very doable ..even with a smaller dish ..say 1.2m

I've only ever had one picture carrying transponder from 43 West ...its sooo weak ...
..here is a list of Sats that I have received at least one transponder from :-
nothing on 45W except a strong data transponder btw ..

It brings tears to my eyes to see her lying there all bruised and battered..
If she were over here ..I'd be doing my damndest to give her the kiss of life.
You are very generous to offer mate ..but I very much doubt the panel(s) will ever make it over to the UK ...
But ...if there is anyone out there who wants to take on the task of cutting off the bolts with a small angle grinder ..packaging up the panels from Montafons QTH ..and getting them sent to the UK ..
Id be happy to pay for your trouble ..so long as it doesn't break the bank..and all shipping costs met ..
Anyone planning an Austrian Holiday ????
