Hello people. I currently do not own a satellite system of any type and i am completely knew to it. I am very tech'd up but i know hardly anything bout satellite tv. The main thing i want to do is pick up astra tv and possible some of the pav tv channels.

I am thinking about purchasing a box and dish package off of ebay - link - but i think i need to know a little more about it before i start.

First of all it says it says it comes with a patching kit. Is this so you can patch the box to recieve 'pay' channels?

I've also noticed 'master codes' on the forum. I'm wondering what these codes are.

Also if this kit sucks then can you point me in the right direction to pick up some decent equipment to pick up the astra channels.

Thanks in advance, Gary.

Hi,having had satellite since xmas last year I learnt as I went along, from what I’ve learnt on these forums I think it odd now that I paid nearly £100- to get my satellite fitted when now it seems not all that difficult.I only started learning as it wasn’t the best of jobs for the money and I had to repair it after a few days of being installed.
I would suggest to save money you work out exactly what you want/require as it can be expensive making frequent alterations such as adding a motor, personally I’d go for the 2 satellite option using a monoblock astra+hotbird for example,it’s much the same as setting up a single satellite.
There is not much free premium stuff just now,and more expenditure involved [at least £100-] to get something like premiere for example.
Yes the patched receiver is for picking up premium channels, but on ebay these days they are promising the world [non stop movies and football] just to sell their boxes, when In reality little is free with a patched receiver for the time being.
If you are in Edinburgh I’d be willing to help you out free in setting up a satellite.
