Hello,

The power supply on our Technomate 5500dapci has given up and I'm thinking of replacing it with an Echostar AD3000ip.

At the same time I'm planning to hook it up to my linux pvr. The echostar has a serial port - is this exclusively for software updates or can it be used to change channels on the box?

If it can be used to change channels I'd really appeciate any pointers and/or reference documents so I can put together a control script.

Thanks for your time reading this.

No way that I know of for controlling the AD3000ip from an external source. Only for firmware updates and channel editing.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Hi Bob (PhD)

I recall some similar question a few years back, with nothing forthcoming.

Does the 3000 have some other positive feature that newer machines don't have ?
Many newer machines to the Technomate can control the motor via a VBox and be controlled remotely.

One of the last units with both analogue and digital. Analogue still useful to get all the French channels in the clear on _http://www.lyngsat.com/ab3.html, specifically TF1.

If it is analogue you need why not slave an analogue receiver from the output of the newer machine ?
