A friend of mine abroad has asked me to advise on setting up sat in a small hotel with 10 rooms. I cant do this properly because I dont know. He wants to keep the costs down to minimum. Here is what I came up with but theres a lot needs filling in.

1 large dish with maybe monoblock lnb.
10 Dreambox 500's (1 for each room)
I know that splitters, some kind of switching and some kind of amplifier will be needed and maybe some other equipment. The 10 Dreamboxes will all reside in some kind of small control room so as to prevent theft of them.
Any pointers appreciated as to what exact equipment will be required and best way how to set about this.
Thanks.

Perhaps letting people know what are the channel requirements and on which satellites, will there be a requirement to muliplex terrestrial with it? which country will it be situated?
answers to all these questions may speed up potential replies.

Also depending on which country the hotel is there will be electrical safety regulations to comply with.

If you are planning to integrate this with an existing RF cable system, you will need to modulate the output of each dreambox, if not you'll need to run CAT5 to each room. Dish wise, you need a Quattro LNB for each satellite you wish to receive.

My best advice is to tell him what he can receive and get a local qualified installer to do the setup, as he'll know what the local electrical safety rules are.

The country is Bulgaria, as for which provider well Im not too sure about this yet as reception can be poor on some sats over there. I do beleive that local transmittted terestrial channels will also need to be available. Having 10 dreamboxes for 10 different rooms is something else that I got wrong silly me, wont work will it unless magic eyes all over the place. I think that it will mean one dedicated dreambox per channel then somehow an rf from all dreamboxes giving the choice of 10 seperate channels from a pool of 10 (if 10 boxes used) plus terestrial. This is where Im not sure what equipment to advise on getting. Getting a qualified satguy in to do this is not practcal right now and that is why Im asking for assistance and advice on here.
Cheers.

Without the above requested information it will not be possible as dish requirements will be unknown

Get a qualified professional installer/company in to design and install the system. SMATV system installations certainly cannot be done diy :)

hello,
what satellite will you be using?

first od all you will need a dish big enough to receive the satellite in question.
then you will meed a quatro lnb, the quatro lnb will have all outputs different
outputs are hor lo,hor hi,vert lo and vert hi.
these outputs will drive a multiswitch.if you want 10 channels then a 10 output multiswitch will be in order.
if you want more then a 12 or 16 output will in order.
your 10 receivers should have a modularor on the back, these modulators ar adjustible from channel 22 to channel 68.
each output will be on a different frequency and if you have local tv there then you want to use those as well you need a spectrum analizer to set this up.

if local tv there are 10 tv channels and 10 satellite channels there should be no problem.
if local tv are on channel 22,30,35,40,45,50.55,60,65
satellite modulators should be channel 24,26,32,37,42,47,52,57,62,67

if there are many local tv stations in the uhf range then you will have to buy 10 programable modularors that cost about 50 euro each and will operate in the 115 mhz to 300 mhz range and make sure the 10 tv's can tune in this range.
these mudulators have a side band so there should be about 14 mhz or 2 channels spacing.
if one mudulator is running at 115 mhz the next one should be at 129 mhz,
the next at 143mhz,157 mhz,next 171 mhz,185 mhz,199 mhz,213 mhz,
227 mhz,241 mhz, etc.
then the modulators need to go to a combiner so there will be some loss.
then the locat tv and the 10 new modulated signals will go to an amplifier for the hotel.
this will send all the local tv and satellite free service to every tv in the building.
every satellite receiver will have to be isolated when you progral them with the remote controll becase if you program onr they all move.
cover the front to the remote beam will not be received bu the others.or isolate the one receiver at a time.
this is something the average person will not be able to do without the correct equipment.
and some knoledge on smatv systems.
:)
this is a breaf discription on how this could be set up.
all the equipment is in a cool room of well ventelated of with air conditioning.
it will get hot in there.
ralph:)

bulgaria is too far from naples to set you up.
have a good day

VSB modulation will allow adjacent channel planning if required.

hi
yes i agree it costs a little more.
a good one has a tracking filter that allows the channels to be next to one another.
thanks
ralph:)

Thank you very much for replies.
Can you please point me in right direction for the following equipment then and suggest any advise on prices, quality etc:

"you will meed a quatro lnb"

"if you want 10 channels then a 10 output multiswitch will be in order"

"your 10 receivers should have a modulator on the back"

"then the modulators need to go to a combiner"

"then the locat tv and the 10 new modulated signals will go to an amplifier "
Thanks
