I recently took posession of an HF3 small communications receiver..
Nowhere near as sensitive as my old WW2 CR100 ...but it does theoretically go lower than the CR100s 60khz.
..all the way to 30khz .. VLF
Why would I want to go this low you may ask ...submarine coms ...
and although there are only markers and CW idents down there ...I wanted as much coverage of the spectrum as possible.
MSF @ 60khz moved from Rugby some years back now somewhere in cumbria I think..but can still be heard.. and is used to lock digital clocks accurately .
In truth I wanted to go ELF ...and once again hear whistlers.
Earths natural radio..
I may try this with a mains filter and PC audio card as a receiver at some point..
..a good few years since I tried it
..and at roughly 8.7hz is the frequency us humans run at..
we are all just electrical conduits afterall..
Tesla knew that of course.
.....now we are getting into 'spirit radio' territory ....wooooo.....woooooooo........
Oh and regarding Medium Wave reception..
You can of course use a long wire antenna ...but I have recently tried a miniwhip antenna with excellent results ..
positioned at roughly gutter height and well earthed..
it requires a bias T feed ..but is basically an RF probe..
Amazingly sensitive and takes up so little space.
