Hi friends...
Here's one thats eluded me for many moons ..

Intelsat 707 at 53.0°W

After trimming a few branches which were limiting access to channels on 55 West ..
I figured I'd have another go at this elusive bird ..

..since I last tried the Alcoa was rebuilt ..and had invested in the F15 ...plus some tweaking of course ..
Finally ..a sniff...

Here are some pics from 3808 R
tp 22 Africable DVB-S 3906-1/2

..having trouble shifting the big cheesy grin from my face atm..

Yo, VS my man .............. this is impressive and interesting stuff.

Not yet motivated in C Band myself, but the old loins are definitely stirring.

PS You're right about the cheesy grin - in fact pic #3 shows you looking rather well! Steradent?

very good -- "vipersan"--
your having a good day - Lyngsat listed your 20 east channel too ---

i,v tried a number of times with no success at 53 west -- but not recently

dont think i have much chance - a wall takes some of my signal on the far west sats

i will be having a try though:)

cheers --

With the 'new' plate I'd say you had a good chance ...
..remember you will gain an extra 2db approx ..cos its circular...

currently getting it around 5.2db above the noise.

best of luck m8

Indeed -- you were right --
despite the odds -- dish view slightly blocked - offset l.n.b on the wrong side for reaching that far west -- actuator 6 counts from the limit  ----- it picked it up ok :)
note the very odd signal and quality readings ?

made another plate this afternoon -exactly the same as the other one performance wise but fits into the feed a lot better - may post details in the "plate thread" later --

cheers

Nice one Nelson m8....
Chalk another one up to the plate ..at least I assume thats what made the difference..

Keep this up and it wont be long before it becomes a standard item in the Cband toolkit..
;)

I had noticed oddities before regarding results and S & Q readings ..
I formed the opinion a while back ..that it doesn't increase signal as such ....but makes better use of what is actually received..
..more efficient at depolarisation maybe ???...giving the illusion of better signal levels.

VS, how do those channels compare in signal strength compared to 55ºW, say for example Caribvision?

Ok ..for Huevos ..

Plate inserted for Africable ...Signal 85 % / 4.5db

Plate removed Caribvision ....Signal level 86% / 5db

Signal levels have generally dropped a little as its now drizzling rain ...and fairly thick cloud cover ..

I can't find the satellite. I'll have to plug in the spectrum. All the other stuff on that end of the arc is linear so I haven't figured where to point the dish for circular except by guesswork. I never bothered before because Satbeams say I would need a 3.5m dish for that satellite, but I guess the 1/2 FEC is what is helping you to receive it. I find the same with the NHK channels on 58ºW; almost no signal but pretty easy to lock.

BTW, in this heat here Caribvision is only just receivable at the moment so if Africable is much below I'd have no chance. Anyway I've ordered a new LNB now so lets see if that makes a difference.
