I've come across a Korg synthesiser which has a mains input connector with 2 rectangular pins. They're chunkier than American ones and a bit closer together than a PC IEC connector. Looks like it has Kite mark on it. Any ideas what to ask for?

Thanks

Have merged the threads, I have never seen one exactly like this, similar but 3 pin one being an earth, but bigger than the normal kettle lead, it is an oddball I would say, this being squared off on all four corners, it must have some designation

edit looks like it is a C9

I would guess the answer would lay with a google search of the kite number within the socket (BS44** ?)

(which leads (sic) to the PWC 178 spec)

Thanks Topper and CH. It's BS4491 which seems to be a standard for appliance connectors and this one seems to be C3.....so at least I now know what to ask for.

They're also a .com and priced in USD so the lead would probably have an american mains plug at the other end.

They're not cheap either...

I bet it wouldn't be that hard to change the socket for a standard kettle plug, might be cheaper than a replacment lead.

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

Although this is in the US, and the postage is a bit steep (try asking for USPS "International", not "Priority International", may work out cheaper), this cable should do the trick, lop off the US plug and stick on a british plug (they use different coloured wires, so Black is Live and White is Neutral) and you're set... :)

Thanks for the pointer. I doubt he'd do postage any cheaper....he's quoting $8.99 for post within US

If you're going to replace the socket, it would be better to stick with the same-sized C14 (3-pin kettle-type) socket, earthing wouldn't be necessary on such a device anyway, so you should be fine leaving that disconnected, or you could use a C18 connector (same style, just missing the earth pin) and you can just use a bog-standard cable like what you use on a PC... :)

Pic is of a C14 socket...

And a link to the various IEC connectors on the market:

Thanks for the suggestion. I replaced it with a C14 (standard PC type) - can't remember now if I took out the earth pin or not. Anyway, it's long gone but thanks again
