I've been looking into buying a HD+ card so I can watch F1 in HD on RTL HD. (it's about €60 for the year). I've asked on another forum (sorry) and apparently Scam initialises the card without the need for a .cfg file. Has anyone used or is using this cam?

Just to clarify I want to use a paid for subs card for my own use only.

I use it for my Tivu card - it updates it nicely even when its deactivated itself.

SCAM3.57 also gives some interesting results with the Nordic PSB channels ;)

If you buy a HD+ cam the rx will need to have CI+ slots - normal CI isnt good enough.

So I've been told....and the Solo isn't CI+ (oh dear, I fear I've just put another entry in the AS 'Reasons not to own a VU+' pamphlet).

I'm assured the card alone will initialise and work.....thing is do I chance wasting €55?

how much is it with a basic receiver that you could just use for rtl instead ?

I know its a pain having extra receivers about got one here for my sky italia.

out of interest, what other hd channels do you get with it ?

If you don't get on with it in the first month I will give you €50 for it.

Now you should feel a little safer :D

Yes, I realise it's only for a year, but (providing it works) at least you'd get those other HD channels (possibly with English soundtrack?) as well. I think it's worth a punt at €55.

@ Wod : I really, really don't want another receiver....I've already got four redundant ones, the Solo on the multi sat and the Dr HD on the motorised dish.

@ Sonic : Thanks, I do feel somewhat reassured LOL.

Yes, more or less decided to take a punt at the HD+ card (just waiting for my credit card statement so I can get an extra month to pay LOL) and I want to order another Black Ultra too. I've never watched F1 on RTL either. I think they may do quali and race but I doubt they'll cover practice.

No. they don't cover Practice, Pete: You'll get that from Sport 1 (also 19E German), but not in HD.

I'm not that bothered actually. There'll be periods without action on track and I'm sure I'd find the German 'talking heads' filling in, just as boring and incomprehensible as their UK counterparts. Just a thought, do the Germans have an EJ equivalent? Lurid shirts et al?

I haven't seen the Sport 1 offering as yet - I did use to watch Practices a few years ago on another German /channel (can't recall the name, but it wasn't this one) and it was ok.

Just used to have it on while I was going about my chores - loads of advert breaks! Nein, I think.

Ok, I've ordered the HD+ card (and a spare Black Ultra), should be here next week. I'll report on success (or not) in due course.

Update : HD+ card arrived this am. No problem with Scam recognizing and initializing it, RTL HD working (plus the other 10 HD channels) fine.

That's great news, Pete: Isn't it nice when a plan works first time.

It was supposed to be animated (rather amusingly, I thought) but the file size is too big for Forum use, sadly.

Good, does it give you all the info about the card expiry date etc.

What encryption does the card use ?

Actually Wod there's very little info. The packaging for the card only tells me it's for twelve months but there is something in German on the invoice but I'd have to run it through a translator to have an idea what it says. I guess it's just 12 months from first activation. The reverse of the card says Nagravision which should be the encryption. Note I'm not using this with any hardware cam.
