Two out of the seven sites on the Thames are now populated with these devices. They have been installed at weirs where the potential energy was simply lost though the 3metre drop to the other side.

Unfortunately there are a couple of spanners being thrown into the works but I am unsure just why there is an outcry.

The opposition could at least have used recycled materials to raise objection at Sunbury lock, rather than reams of copier paper/not stuck them onto trees with drawing pins and possibly have got their grammar correct before wasting ink on them (I suppose there is one less letter printed out, so this M.A.D. group is also saving the environment in their own way).

A link to the company providing the screws

Well I think it's an excellent implementation of an ancient idea, even if it's there so Liz can have an extra cuppa and not worry about the meter flying round. Quite why there aren't more of these in rivers and tidal turbines in the UK I can't fathom. Two of the best constant renewable resources we have are water courses fed by rainwater and the tides. Yes, I'm sure there will be some environmental impact on wildlife at first but I can't think it will have a huge lasting effect.

There's no sign of M.A.D. on the internet that I can find. Unless it really is Alfred E Neuman but as his famous quote was 'What? Me worry?' it seems an antithesis of the objecting group. How much did it cost them to laminate each pristine A4 sheet?

What would the fish prefer, a friendly 'screw' or a drop of 10 feet over a concrete parapit through some metal grills ?

It could be another typo/grammatical faux-pas. ;)
