A interesting channel has popped up on Astra 1 11054 H SR22000 called ARD-Test-R that switches between ONE HD and tagesschau24 HD every minute. I don't know if there's been a channel like this previously but it's the first time I've noticed it.

The same switching is used for the Lokalzeit regional news on WDR channels - most of the time the various WDR regions use the same VPID & APIDs, then when local programmes are scheduled the PIDs change in order to show the correct news for the region/channel selected. This (presumably) allows the national programmes to run at a higher bitrate and avoid the encoding issues of having several channels on the same transponder showing the same thing simultaneously.

Translated EPG:
"Test transmission for receiver manufacturers, TV dealers, cable companies and interested viewers to test the PMT switching of the end devices.

The PMT switching, also called dynamic PMT, is one of the most important mechanisms for the correct functioning of the regional programs at ARD. The ARD-Test-R service switches the video and audio PIDs back and forth between the programs tagesschau24 and ONE every minute."

It's nice that the "interessierte Zuschauer" like us are being acknowledged

That’s interesting! The same service (Test-R) has always existed on the SD 10743H transponder that’s just closed. I never realised that it was for this purpose though, or even that it switched between the two services every minute in that way.

Test-R existed for many years, I think it was already available in the late 90th.
It's for testing time controlled switch to regional subschannels.
