Are there any HD receivers, that just work as they should, and have no problems?

Currently I have Octagon SF918HD, and it really annoys me, due to lack of logical features that cheap $30 receiver has.

The functions I need from an HD receiver:

1. Work in both C/Ku band flawlessly (For example, Kathrein UFS910 DOES NOT, there's no input for LOF 5150 in it)

2. Diseqc 1.1/1.2 cascading (Not available in octagon)

3. Fully automatic blind scan (not available in octagon)

4. PVR availability to USB MTP in non proprietary format, For example, for octagon you need to format HDD in specific format, only understandable by receiver. And Topfield PVR receivers don't record decoded stream, so if you remove orginal card, you can't watch what you've recorded.

5. Normaly working CI module (not available in octagon)

6. No problems with TP scan/sensitivity (Like problems that DM800/8000 have)

Well, someone may say, that I'm asking too much and "have to wait", BUT! I know at least several models of non-hd receivers right now, which support ALL of these features - For example, Openbox 770CI has it all.

So why is it problem to implement these SIMPLE features in HD receivers, or this is marketing trick, to suck out as much money as they can from us, or maybe I've searched not so deeply, and there's model which has ALL these features?

Two of my customers have upgraded to HD machines, one has a Technomate 6800 non super (on DiSEqC motor), the other has the Humax 2000 (on V-Box).

Neither has had any issue over the past month, though the Humax is certainly more basic in operation.

I have the TM6800 non super, and it covers points 4 to 6 without problem. The super models have the blind scan. I bought a USB drive from PC World and just bunged it in and it worked straight off, as did the Conax Cam I'm using for DigitalB.

I don't have a Diseqc 1.1 switch or a C-band LNB to try points 1 and 2, but Diseqc 1 and 1.2/USALS cascades OK, so I don't see why Diseqc 1.1 won't as it is selectable on the menu on the same page that Diseqc 1.0 is.

Blind search is not really a necessity with the NIT analyer on the loopthrough (and Lyngsat listings updates).

There's no need to have C band LNB to check that, just go to LNB setting, and check, if it allows entry of 5150 as LOF frequency. For example, in kathrein you can enter 5150, but when you press ok, it changes to 9000.

Also, feature to sort channels by alphabet will be nice - Octagon again misses that feature :)

At home now.;)

Yes 5150 is selectable. In fact, numerical entry of the LO frequency is possible.

And, channels can be sorted alphabetically, by transponder,by CAS type, or whatever order they were scanned in.

Thanks for info. Does it has channel search feature? (not by first letter of name,as in octagon), but by full channel name (as in globo opticum?)

No it doesn't, but it is no great loss. Once the channels have been segregated by satellite, there aren't usually too many to check through ( when in alphabetical order). I have tried other receivers that make you want to throw the towel in when trying to find a particular channel.

Yes I agree, it may be not a great loss for a watcher of several packages with fixed channels. But in my case, there will be 12 satellites and more than 4000 channels in total...

Anyway, this receiver seems to be satisfactory for me, I'll keep it in mind, for planning a purchase, thanks for info!

haha

absolutely no need to watch all, to have them sorted. Isn't it right?

Libraries have thousands of books, and single reader does not reads them all, but does this means that they should not been sorted?

I have Octagon SF918HD, and this is very DUMB receiver, compared to $35 priced Opticum 4100C or StarTrack SR55X.

So far:

TM 6900HD=Clarke Tech 5000 Super Plus=Dr. HD F16
firmware is interchangeable, just boot loader needs to be fixed.

I also considering Vantage 1100, due to it's size. But I can't found information, does it support C/S over LAN and is it diablo wifi compatible.

The receiver arrived. Had not much time to test it for, but found 2 problems:

1. There is no "combo" mode for video scaling.
2. Diablo cam still does not works (but this is quite different from previous case, this time it can't get keys, according to it leds, maybe mtv package is down).

The unit come with august 2008 firmware, will put latest firmware in it later and retest.
